Im not looking to go ridic on price. Sounds like 15 would be perfect for 33s. I like 15 just wanted to make sure 15 are still in style hahaha nowadays rims are huge

You should have an adjustable track bar at 3". People will tell you all day that they're fine without one, but that's because they don't care that their axle is moved noticeably to one side.

A proper 3" lift should have a track bar.

Everyone here knows what's next:
I personally recommend the Iron Rock Offroad double shear bar. I won't use anything else.

Is it just me or when adjusting the toe-in it never works smoothly? Either turning it does nothing or too much. Yes, I'm rolling it back and forth in between adjustments. Is +/- 1/4" good enough?

Toe-in should be 1/8" IIRC. Get it as close as you can.

Default Lift and tire question

want to lift the xj but keep it as a dd. so i THINK 3" lift would be best and cheapest. but what i really want is a wide stance. hate the narrow looking jeeps. how would i achieve this? tires in mind are 31 x 10.50 x 15
thanks for advice in advance

I suggest 15x7 wheels with 4" backspacing. Pretty common for a nice wide stance without putting too much strain on ball joints.

3 1/2 backspacing. Or wheel spacers.

Check out summitracing.com for US Wheel, and Jegs and Serious Offroad. All three sites usually have great prices on 15" steelies.

The wheel specs and tire specs need to work together. If you know what size tire you want, the wheel is easy to choose.

A lift project should be based around what size tire you plan to run. Then determine how much lift and/or body modification will be required for that. Wheel choice will depend on those two decisions.

For a 31x10.5x15 tire, you want a 15" wheel diameter. For a 10.5" tire width, a 15x7 wheel would be ideal because it will do a better job holding the bead than a wider wheel would.
If you wanted 33x12.5x15 tires, as another example, I would suggest a 15x8 wheel for the same reasons. You don't want the tire to be squeezed too much, so we step up to an 8" wide wheel in that case.

Backspacing determines how far the wheel will stick out from the wheel mounting surface (WMS). 4" is a good number for most applications on a Cherokee.
