Time has come for me to ditch the OEM exhaust manifold... cracked finally. It is an 87 so it lasted a long time.

Looking at the Dorman for about 165 bucks anyone run this manifold. We are kinda limited on what is available for the 87. Since it is Renix. I don't really want to spend over 200 bucks all I am worried about is at least OEM performance or maybe a tad better. Been googling all morning so now it is time for yalls opinions.

Thanks

Anyone have this exhaust setup? or have the exhaust tip in the same area?
I wouldnt go with the glass pack me and a buddy of mine have them they are raspy sounding under acceleration IMO and they arent that loud. Just my 2 cent about it . Im bout to go with the flowmaster super 10 it gives it a throaty deep tone that sounds good when you accelerate hard almost sounds straight piped.

If you want the best of two worlds, try Dynomax VT. It's quiet at cruising speed and screams at w.o.t. and gives free flow.

Me too! Just installed that same combination last night (magnaflow cat/flowmaster44) and I'm quite pleased

Default Studs and nuts.

I'm working on my 1997 Cherokee and it turns out that my exhaust manifold is cracked down near the collection point where all the tubes come together. I'm told this is a common problem. It doesn't look too difficult to get this manifold out, however I'm concerned about the condition of the studs and nuts holding the manifold on. They're old and rusty. How concerned should I be about them braking when I try to loosen them? I ask because most of my experience is with Turbo cars and they tend to be very brittle from all the heat.

Thanks!

Just realized I put this in the wrong section but I can't seem to delete the post?
Sorry about that. If an admin wants to move this to OEM questions it would be appreciated.

Have a question about noise.

On my previous XJ i had a FM 44 offroad muffler with a turn down right before the axle. It sounded awesome and was nice n loud, but got annoying on long trips(that drone). On my new XJ i wanna do an exhaust system with a tail pipe coming out the oem location. Will it be a good deal quieter if its coming out the back compared to the turn down style?

YES!!! I've had a glass pack dumped at the axle, straight pipe to under the passenger seat, and straight piped all the way. All the way has been the quietest BY FAR. My friends agree too. A girl in my class almost cried because we could hold a conversation without raising our voices

Default Cherokee XJ Exhaust question

To get my Jeep registered in CA, it had to pass a smog check but before doing so, I discovered the PO had removed the check-engine bulb. After replacing the bulb and clearing a former code for the #1 O2 sensor, I found that the exhaust pipe, where it connects to the flange at the collector pipe, has what appears a dent on both sides. Is this a factory thing for clearance, which doesn't seem necessary, or the workings of a previous idiot.

I am just wondering if this restriction is what was originally causing the code to activate.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

That would be the factory crush pipe. Have a new pipe made without the crush in it.

44, 40, and 10. The 40 may be your best bet, I don't think it's overly loud but it does sound good. 44 is pretty aggressive and the 10 will try and rip your eardrums out
