Just to clarify, what part of the exhaust are you saying is 2 1/4? Pre-cat or after cat?

2.5" tailpipe with the flowmaster s44. It sounded great to me. I didn't see any mpg difference. Probably cause I couldn't keep my foot out of it. Definitely gave me better throttle response and seemed like a little power (butt dyno of course).

Cool man. Also was one of the easiest things i did to my jeep. Took about 30 minutes in the driveway one night. I used the supplied clamps because I was just tired of the big box it comes in sitting in my house. If I did it again I would have had it welded in.

Clamps are just fine. Welding isn't required.

Alright, ive got another question. Would there be a difference in the sound between a 14" long magnaflow and a 18" long magnaflow?

I'm pretty sure the larger muffler will be quieter. And that brings us to my question.

I am completely sick of my aftermarket muffler. Works just fine, but sounds terrible - always did. So I'm looking for a replacement that is quiet - if not as quiet as stock, then certainly quieter than the Mac Flowpath I have had for all these years.

Any suggestions? (No, I haven't read thru all 2000+ posts ... sorry)

Just a quick question...Took my XJ off-road today (first major off road trek it was on) and when I got back from the long trip, I could smell something that smelled like burning wood...My cat case is pulled open a little bit (I need a new one, it's corroded) and I wasn't sure if it was the cat that smelled like that, my exhaust, or my rear brakes...I'm just trying to get this narrowed down, I don't know if it was maybe the mud on my exhaust line or anything like that. And, as far as I know, there is no wood stuck anywhere near the exhaust...I didn't run any over that could have gotten stuck on the trip

It may have just been mud on the exhaust. It deffently has a unique smell. If you stop smelling it, then it was probably mud on the pipes.
