Probably just oil from the machining process. You shoulda seen my engine bay after i put on my new header. Start it up, let it run for a little. If it stops, it was just oil. If not, you may have some other problem.

After my exhaust was done I had a good bit of black smoke coming out of the tailpipe. It's gone now.

The fumes from the exhaust are fine, its the pipe itself that is f'ed up..

My had a burning smell initially too. Mine was a sticker that I couldn't remove and probably just cause its new. If it were me I would just give it a few days.

Same thing happened to me. It must have been the sticker, because it went away after a few days. Nothing to worry about.

The pipes usually have an oil coating over them to keep them from rusting while in storage. That is more than likely what you are seeing.

Any of you guys removed the factory front cats before? I am replacing mine this weekend and am wondering the likelihood of me needing a torch to heat up the bolts to separate the flange.

It's a 2000.

The heat kinda seizes the bolts. Your best bet is to spray with P'Blaster for a week while driving then try to break the bolts loose while the cat is warm. What brand are you replacing it with? Magnaflow?

I wish man, the magnaflow cat (the dual cat behind the manifold) is $600. I decided to go with AP Exhaust's equivalent which was $400 cheaper through Mudfrog at Performance Curve. Although I'm sure the Magnaflow is a much better looking weldment. The AP is pretty ugly to say the least. I don't really care as long as it holds up and lasts.

Will the PB Blaster do much with it being directly attached to the manifold? It seems like it gets pretty hot in that area.

This is the system I am going to run.

Stock manifold - AP Front Cats - AP Front Pipe - Walker OE Converter (couldn't pass the price on EBay, got it for $60 new) - Magnaflow Performance Curve System on back.

Alright so I ran into a problem today. My tailpipe was rusted enough that it broke off right flush with the muffler. It certainly is louder now and I kinda like it lol but until i can get it fixed I'm wondering if this will effect any engine performance. I apologize that this has nothing to do with the conversations before me, but this was an exhaust thread so I thought I'd post about it. Thanks

You will loose some low end torque. The big concern is all that hot exhaust blowing on your gas tank.
