So I have convinced my wife that come tax season I need a new exhaust manifold (and everything else in the system) to improve my mpg, cracked manifold and all.
What I will get is 2.5" mandrel tubing from an exhaust shop and a flow master super 44 with some flex pipe near the manifold to prevent future cracking, I wanted to get the APN manifold but it's only for 91 and up I know it CAN be done for earlier models like mine (90') but how difficult is it and what needs to be done, or is there any other comparable manifold for a 90' 4.0.
Finally should I stick with the old cat or get another and which should I get, all help is appreciated thank you.

PaceSetter is the only direct bolt on that I know of for '87 - '90, IIRC.

I have a chance to save buku bucks on some pacesetter headers. says they're for my year, 88-90 but how can I be certain? What are the differences between them and later models? It's the 70-1191 model

on mine i have headers then 2.5 inch pipe ,one straight thru muffler and it turns down and ends just before the axle, sounds great, nice and loud with good pops on the limiter,we dont have to worry about cats over here but mine is not road legal anyway.

But why are they garbage. Same design as flowmaster. I have seen a couple people say they are junk in other forums just because, no real reason. I had a FM44 on my last XJ and I liked it but if I can get the same sound and performance for half the price. Why not?
