If you look a few pages back I talked mad **** on my flowmaster. I absolutely 100% HATE the way it sounds.

I was really surprised by your magnaflow because I don't like them on a V8 at all. I'm a big fan of Borla but that's more than I would ever spend for a muffler on a jeep

Borla always has a nice sound, on V8's it really depends on the vehicle I like the magnapacks personally thats what I run

So... I ended up going w/ 2.5", all the way through. I talked to the shop guy about replaced the crushed elbow; he said no problem. Then, when I was watching them do the work, I saw that they cut the pipe just after the o2 sensor. I asked him about the crushed elbow part, he said that his boss told him not to mess w/ that or the o2 sensor.

Oh well, some other time.

Exactly the one I'm planning to use if I don't like the muffler coming with the JEGS cat-back I ordered. The Thrush is only 1/2" longer at 19".

Hey how's it goin guys, figured IDE throw my opinion in, well I tell ya what, Full Boar makes really good sounding mufflers! N really good price too! I put a racing 10 series Full Boar muffler on my 95 Xj sport n it sounds great!! I get compliments all the time! Everyone says it sounds like a v8 beatn the ground! It definatly rumbles, n it's got good smooth sound all the way around! N I recently put a stainless race header on it too cause stock one cracked, that also made it sound better, n once I did that n fixed all my leaks it sounded great! If u got leaks your system won't sound as good as it should, so make sure your headers not cracked n u have no other leaks anywhere, otherwise your system won't work as good as it should n won't sound as good as it should! I paid sumpn like 100 bucks for the header n 50 for my muffler, n I'm super happy with the way mine sounds!! Sounds better than any other xj I've heard around town, n I'm not the only one saying that either! All my buddies n people I know tell me that too! And I also installed everything myself, not to hard but is very time consuming!

Ok so I didn't read through this whole threat but all Ive really seen in about 20 pages was the sound you want. Other than sound how much power will you get? Mpg difference? I would like a little more power in my next jeep, thinking about a CIA and some sort of exhaust, along with different injectors. A little more mpg and power would be awesome. A cool sound is fun and all but it would be nice to know some things that actually matter.

Like you I haven't tried to look through all the posts so I don't know if the majority are looking for a "cool sound" or not. Personally I was looking for a system that wouldn't "drone " me to death. I just finished installing the system I got. All went real well considering I did it by myself. Just had to take my time making sure everything was lined up before tightening things down. I ended up cutting about 2 1/2" off the tailpipe because it was a bit lower than my hitch receiver. Still has a turndown though. I will say that band clamps are NICE. Haven't taken it for a ride yet but the sound idlewise is a bit louder than my 17yr old system.

Default Exhaust Drone

Hey guys, quick exhaust question - I just sold my old cherokee which had a 2.5" catback exhaust running through a Flowmaster 40, and it sounded great. A little drone ~1900rpm, but nothing bad. On this new cherokee I picked up I had another Flowmaster 40 installed with 2.5" pipe only between the cat and muffler (waiting a couple weeks to get some $!) and left the stock tailpipe on - With this setup there is a terrible amount of drone between 1500-2000rpm.

Is it possible that running the stock tailpipe is causing the drone in such a similar setup? I expect that the sound will change slightly as the interior builds up with carbon, but what's goin on here?

The smaller sized tubing makes a higher pitched sound than the 2.5. Just right to go through the insulation I guess. Or the rear floor is rusted out. My 89 was like that.

Yea I did gain power and mpg's, but u can't do all this stuff to the exhaust n not do somthin bout letn it breath better up front too, I put a K&N air filter & modified my stock box, just cut one whole side of it out, on the side away from the motor, just doin that too will gain u some power & mpg's too. N the cost of all this is the best thing! I got $200 bucks total n my whole system, $50 for K&N air filter, $100 for stainless race header with special flex fins so header won't crack, & $50 for Full Boar 10 series race muffler, & modified box $0, u can't beat it! & I did it all myself! & I definatly gained power & mpg's, I get 20mpg round town & 25 highway, not bad for a XJ thats got 273,000 miles on it! But I wasn't gettn that before I did all that work to it, mainly because I had the stock header on it & it done bout broke in half, now my Jeep sounds and runs great! & there is a big noticeable difference in the power gain also! Better throttle response & acceleration, & just more overall power throughout every gear! I have a 5 speed in my Jeep, n I love it! U get way better sound out of a 5 speed than u do automatic. I'm extremely happy with the way mine sounds now!! & with my gains on power & mpg's

Also forgot to add that the 10 series Full Boar race muffler I bought is the same dimensions as the flowmaster racing 40, n pretty much made the exact same way, both are single chamber racing mufflers, my friend has a TJ on 40's & he put the flowmaster racing 40 on his, we have the same 4.0 H.O. motor, he has a 5 speed too, but my XJ actually sounds better than his, pretty much the same when idling, mine just a little deeper, but driving down the road mine sounds a lot better, deeper tone all the way around, u can really tell when your goin through the gears n then downshifting n stuff, he don't have a stainless race header though on his like mine. & the price is a big difference too, he paid like $100 bucks for his & I only paid $50 for mine!! I definatly recommend the Full Boar racing 10 series muffler to everybody!!!
