whoo makes the best O2 sensors for the 97-01 4.0?
what r the most common (electrical) issues for the O2 sensors?
my reader cannot distinguish which O2 sensor is bad, is there a way to figure it out or do i. Replace both?
So for starters nothing but NGK's for the O2 sensor.
Don't even think about using anything else.
So Googling P0132 says that it has to do with the Bank 1 Sensor 1.
So that is the upstream one.
The 2 O2 sensors are different.
So it appears that a P0132 could be more of a wiring problem then an O2 sensor problem.
So before you just randomly replace parts my might want to check that.
Now me personally if it is the upstream O2 sensor that is the problem the chances are pretty good that I would replace the downstream one too.
But I do dumb stuff like that so you really can't go by me. LOL.

Default Exhaust 99 XJ 4.0

Need to replace the entire exhaust system. The dynomax kit comes with a muffler/tailpipe/clamps. Am I correct in thinking I will still need a front pipe/
,flange, hangers, and insulator? Just wondering why the dynomax kit says full cat back if it doesn’t include the front pipe?

Thank you. As an update I used a bit more of shotgun approach to address the multiple issues I originally identified.
1) replaced the upstream O2 sensor
2) backflushed the heater core, radiator, and replaced thermostat (since everything was open and I didn’t like the looks of all RTV gasket material around it)
3) removed the instrument cluster and cleaned contacts with contact cleaner (it also turned out the cluster had not been locked in place at the connector))
4) refreshed 3 grounds in the engine bay......I tried the instrument ground refresh suggested by cruiser 57, but couldn’t locate the ground as someone had previously installed a remote starter and keyless entry system .....and not very well by the looks of it.
as a result of #4 I decided to hold off until I see if any of 1-3 actions worked.
Results
heat working again, and no issues with instruments or how the XJ runs after a 2.5 hr test drive.....so looks good for now.. will get into the remote start after the holidays. Thanks to all for the great advice....happy holidays

CAT Back means from the catalytic converter back to the tail pipe.

I need to replace the front pipe on my 2001 XJ and I'm having no luck trying to find the resonator part for it. The system has the 2 cats that are up by the manifold...a front pipe..then a resonator flanged on both ends....then the muffler. The flange at the end of the resonator that attaches to the front pipe is rusted to crap so I'll need be to replace the resonator to, but for the life of me I can't locate this part. Anyone know of a source or have some other words of wisdom? Any help would be much appreciated .

Yes I am..
Thanks for the links. I'm still confused though. I thought in 2001 there were only the 2 mini cats and then the part in front of the muffler was just a resonator. I mean I don't care if that's what I need but that would make the 3 cats on the 2001?

https://www.walkerexhaust.com/find-my-part.html

I happen to know a little about this cause I replaced the exhaust in my '00.
Used all, I mean all, the parts in that diagram.
Seeing how my '00 is a CA Emissions one it is the same as your '01.
I just wanted to make sure that you were from CT cause if you were from CA, NY, and I think ME,
you would have to use different cats. More stringent emission rules in those states.
Just so you know depending on who you talk to the rear cat has been called a resonator too.
I believe that is what Jeep calls it.
But when you go to look that up it seems all aftermarket companies call it a cat.
Seeing how there is not an O2 sensor behind it I never really knew what the deal was with it.

Hey I just thought of something.
Do you have a front pipe just like that diagram shows?
Bolts to the back of the front cat and the front of the back cat?
Cause while I have never been able to confirm this I believe that from the factory the front cat and front pipe were all one piece.
But they were not on my '00 so.........

That's probably what has been confusing me. That, and as you mention no O2 sensor.

Pretty sure mine is all original and build sheet shows it was made to be shipped to CT. The front cats terminate at a flange and it connects to the front pipe just as in the diagram. I replaced the muffler back with Walker parts last year so it all should mate up nicely...hopefully. Thanks again for all the info.

OK that is a good thing.
Cause see where the diamonds are between the front cat and front pipe and the front pipe and rear cat in the diagram?
Look at the legend at the bottom.
I think this is for when the front cat and front pipe are all one piece.
Which if you need to replace the front pipe would make things more complicated.

Just a follow up..parts arrived yesterday. for my 2001 XJ. Front pipe from AA, 'cuz I got 25% off, rear "cat" and gaskets from Amazon. 3/8 in bolts, washers, and nuts from TSC.
Crawled under her this morning and went to work. Everything fit like a glove, although the front down pipe flange was F'ed up. The outer edges of the mounting holes were rusted away so the holes were more like horse shoes than a complete circle. Plenty of material was left to tighten it down...for now. I figure eventually more is going to rust away. Going to look into flange repair kits as an option down the line. Hope I never have to replace the 2 front cats and pipe, .
