My exhaust had came off during a jump and tore out my o2 sensor with it also. But the problem is that it broke the wires before the plug and not on the downstream part of the actual sensor. I am wondering what the easiest solution to this is or if there is any repair harness kits to redo the whole thing. Thanks in advance.

Go to the junk yard, buy what you need then splice in the wires. That way you can keep the stock plug so when you replace the o2 sensor down the road you just need to unplug and plug in the new one.

I have a strange smell and a foggy smoke that fills around my Jeep in idle and it makes me feel kinda sick sometimes. Idk if maybe I cracked my exhaust while off-roading or if I might be running rich on O2 or what exactly is happening. Nothing seems to be leaking and when I look at the tail pipe I don’t see smoke releasing from it, but I can see the area around me getting foggy the longer I sit in idle. It also smells almost bittersweet kinda like burning antifreeze.

Sweet smell is a bad sign. Are you losing coolant too? Is there oil in your coolant or coolant in your oil? You could be looking at a cracked head gasket or worse. It definitely sounds like your exhaust is leaking. It may be in the engine bay though. Exhaust manifolds have a habit of cracking so I'd check that out.

P.S. Don't drive it until you find out what's going on. You could die...

PO put a magnaflow exhaust on my XJ and while I do love the sound it makes from the outside, it is absolutely oppressive ok the highway and I'm an overlander so that ends up being all the time.

I was wondering if it's possible for me to grab a muffler off some big V8 vehicle like a RAM or even an old V8 ZJ and swap that magnaflow out? If so, what are the best options as far as donor vehicles are concerned?

Also wondering if it's a bad idea to do a clamp instead of a weld specifically between the transmission mount and the rear mount by the axle. Reason? Taking the exhaust off or moving it is a pain in the butt when it's all one piece.

Are you saying that it is droning on the highway or that it is too loud on the highway? either way the best exhaust would be a stock one. The bigger the exhaust the more suppression it will have. So find out the stock dimension and then look for one like that. There are some super cheap option on eBay/Amazon, Walker is one that is nice and cheap.

With this summer's heat, I was getting alarming temperature numbers from my MagnaFlow replacement front cat. Even with the addition of the heat shield (see previous post), the case of the AW4 was reading 214 degrees adjacent to the cat (235 degrees will cause catastrophic transmission failure). I researched alternants and found that Walker's #81812 meets all 50 state requirements and has been granted approval in California (D-82-06). Installed, the Walker cat is much closer to the original in size and offers ample room around it in the tight space available. For added insurance, I placed heat shield's insulating mat around it with two hose clamps to secure it. After driving in hot weather, the case of my AW4 read 174 degrees. IF YOU NEED TO REPLACE YOUR FRONT CATALYTIC CONVERTER, I RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT. Please note that quality catalytic like Walker's are shielded for heat and will pass California and New York smog tests while cheaper units will not pass and are not shielded. To get the costs down, cheaper units are crimped rather then welded and use inferior materials that simply will NOT last.

I would worry more about oil temp inside the aw4 I would hope oil temp runs below 180 closer to 150. 180 is tge point were id be thinking about shutting it down.

200 is very hot for a tranny.

My guess is very few aw4 have a temperature gauge installed wouldn't be surprised if when motor us under a load that cats are running 500plus.

That cat install above looks great and Temps reduced. Very nice to see actual heat reduction

thanks - standard operating temp for an AW4 is around190 degrees - they work best in a very narrow range. The case temp is used for comparisons and your right that a transmission fluid temp gage would be best. I have a larger capacity radiator / trans cooler as well.

My truck has noticable more bite at 135 compared to 100deg fluid temp.

If speck is 190 go with it though that seems hot to me for auto to sustain. I dont know much about the aw4 just play with the 47re behind my cummins. I do run chevron tf1000 instead of atf+4.

What does the aw4 spec for fluid?

an AW-4 uses Mercon ATF fluid . And you can google operating range for automatic transmissions and find that the typical range is between 175 - 190 degrees - which sounds high, but that's how they are designed

Thats because the transmission fluid runs through alot of vehicles cooling systems essentially warming the fluid to that temp
but the temp of the fluid coming out of the the tourqe converter is much hotter, the coolant system does a good job of knocking the super heated fluid back down to engine operating temps.

I personally don't like that fluid runs through the coolant system. Most auto transmissions will work well on everything but water. Seems risky to potentially pump coolant into it. That said my cummins does push trans fluid through a separate coolant heat exchanger. Id get rid if it but in winter I rarely see trans temp reach 100
