Just rent a spring compressor. After fighting for an hour and a half, I went to VIP and rented one. Ten minutes later and it was done! You could disconnect your lcas, or this and that, but I just removed swaybar endlinks and shocks, (which I was replacing anyways) and bam, done. I highly recommend it.

I just disconnect the shocks, trackbar mount and brake caliper. Then I jacked up one end. The spring practically falls out. But whatever works Just be careful with those spring compressors

im getting ready to tackle my lift install. i have a spring compressor. i am gathering some last minute stuff, like rear shock bolts, leaf bolts and i allready made the cover plates for the floor in the hatch area. i also removed the carpet too.
so im not looking forward to this, but ive had this lift for about 5 months now, so i need to get it done before the snow comes.

Losing fingers isn't the big concern. The compressor losing grip on the spring and a huge chunk of metal becoming a deadly projectile is the big concern. I believe one of our members had a friend who's jaw was the token when it happened.
Most use safety chains or straps of sorts.
Yes, they work, but they are very dangerous.

Just had one out of two compressors let go on my 5.5 spring, scared the **** out of me. And it wasn't the first time these has happened to me. I'm more afraid of getting hit in the ***** then anything... they can fix a broken jaw :-/. Harbor freight sells a one piece compressor that is a much better idea. Or as stated above tow straps work well as a safety precaution. People have been killed from high tension springs letting go. Proceed with caution.

Probably should of started a new thread but figured this one was close enough. I just put in my front springs for my 4.5inch lift last night. Used spring compressors and worked great definitely use them.
However, now that I've got the springs in my lower control arms aren't even close to lining up. I know your supposed to jack up the entire axle to line them up but when I try that they still aren't even close and if you keep jacking it up the axle won't raise anymore it just starts to lift the jeep off the jack stands.
I'm out of ideas, would unbolting the upper control arms help at all? I already unbolted the trackbar which won't line up now either. Any help is appreciated
Thanks

I know my proceedure was not the safest nor the smartest but it worked very quickly and easily for me. I have a concrete wall that slopes from ground level to about 4 feet.. I disconnected my shocks and swaybar links then drove up on it till my opposite side was off the ground.. unbolted my coil keeper and the stocker fell out.. then slid my new coil in place and torqed down the keeper then repeated the same proceedure on the other side.. it litterally took me all of 15 minutes to knock out the coil swap.
