Default axle pushed back

Ok so I bought my first jeep about a week ago and I got it cheap cause it was damaged from off roading. And at first I thought the only damage was the steering gear box so I fixed that but now I noticed that the axle got pushed back on the passenger side. It looks like the control arm mount on the axle is messed up. So I'm not sure how to fix it since the mount is welded to the axle. Can I just weld a new one on? And if so how do I know if I'm welding it at the right spot? So I don't know if maybe I should just a whole new axle?

If you are confident of your welding skills by all means it would be cheaper to repair your axle. Make sure you check the axle to see if it was bent during whatever accident happened. If the tubes are bent it will throw off the camber and the pinion and ring gear alignment.

Easiest thing would be to take all the guess work out and swap the axle with a good D30 from the JY. To do a proper repair you would have to pull the axle anyway.

Yeah I wouldn't be doing the welding myself I have some friends that are welders but I was hoping to not have to remove the axle lol well I guess if I'm going to pull it off i guess I'll look into how much the JY wants for one. What would be a fair price for a JY axle?

JY really seem to vary... Around me a complete axle would probably be about $300-$400 at a JY. If you can find a JY that lets you pull your own parts you could get it much cheaper than that. Best thing to do is call some and ask

you can get super beefy replacement control arm mounts for less than a new axle, and you dont have to remove the axle to weld them unless you are thinking you need to pull it and take it to a friends house. Can any of them pack the welder up and bring it to you?

If your axle is in fact bent the only way to get it strait is to weld new tubes on the pumpkin... At that point your just better off getting a JY axle! I would imagine if the axle mount is that bent the frame side has got to be messed up as well. in that case I would just look into a long arm kit!

good luck man!

Ok well then I guess I'll just have to pull it off to make sure that the control arm is the only thing bent. And then I guess I'll just have to go from there lol

Ok well I'm just going to get a whole new axle. The local JY is selling me one with the brakes and everything on it for $250 and they are taking it off for me. So I figured that is a pretty good deal. Now the next big project is replacing the floor.

Yeah... see that is why I said JY will vary. Around me the JY are more like an auto parts business. They charge a premium.

Ya it varies, but you will always pay more if they pull it! I paid $250, but it was the only yard in Slc that had my 8.25!

You guys must have the ones where they just pull it and bring it to you. They tried those here and regular yards put em out of buisness. Mainly cause they charge the same price for something that you can get new at the parts store.
