backspacing? offset?
hey i have 1992 jeep cherokee. and i am putting on some 31 by 10.5 maxxis bighorns i have some 31 by 10.5s on right now but they do not stick out too my likings and i would like something a little bit meatier, hence the bighorns.
but from my understanding in order to make the tires stick out a little bit past the fenders i need a wider rim that is offset and has a certain dimesnion for backspacing?
i am looking at several sets of 15 x 8 inch rims of all different offsets and backspacings and i cannot make sense of or figure out what the ideal offset and backspacing size is in order to make them stick out.
any suggestions?
thanks
Sean

yeah, don't worry about the offset. all that is is the number you get when you divide the rim width in half and minus the backspacing. it's not important for our applications.
but for your goal, i would look into ar767 black steelies that are 15x8 with 3.75 inch backspacing. (that would net you .25 inch negative offset).
they are what i have on a couple jeeps running a 12.5 inch wide tire.

I have 33x10.50x15 BFG KM2s on extreme alloy wheels 15X8 with 3.75" back space. They stick out about 1.5" past my flares on my 94 XJ. 11.50s to 12.50s should stick out about 2.5". They will look good. KM2s are aggressive looking tires.

don't think you will find those.
my beadlocks are 15x10 with 3 inch bs, but don't think you will find regular beaded wheels with less than 3.75 for 8 inch wide.

Haha thanks. Im not a big fan of the current "euro" style/smoked tail lights. Maybe oneday if someone makes a style that I like.

Just have them custom built...any offset you want starting at around $70. They paint them black or silver, or you can just get them raw steel and paint/powdercoat them to your liking. Just make sure the back bell measurement will clear your brakes. They make 15, 16, 16.5, 17, 18, and 20 inch wheels. They're super nice guys to deal with.

99% of all 15x8 wheels will work. 1/2" doesnt matter to me one way or another.
they will be 3.5 3.75 and unlikly 4 but possibly.
I wouldnt pay extra to make them any wider. Thats like paying extra to wear your front end quicker and paying to degrade your visability in wet muddy conditions
could do some 10" wide rubber on some 12" wide wheels offset to the moon, mabe weld rebar on the wheel to protect the tire and give better pull when curb riding.
