brake booster swap question
I'm wanting to get rid of my abs on my 92 xj. I bought a master cylinder from the jy and was going to swap it. Question is, is there a way to make my brake lines work or do I need new brake lines as well? Thanks in advance

You can try and get them to fit but It is pretty easy to get new lines and install them. I purchased one single line at Oriellys. They have 40" lines $7-$10 (maybe longer) that have the correct fitting on each end for either the master side or the proportioning valve side. Cut it in half and you only need to take the fittings for the other end from the old lines and flare that end to fit the other side. I took a coat hanger and did a test bend to follow as I bent the lines close enough to get them to fit.

Booster swap
This booster swap was probably the best thing I have done to my XJ period! But I would consider doing a complete brake job while you are at it. When I did mine it got new calipers, rotors, brake drums, and brake cylinders. Best thing I did for my XJ for sure. No more White knuckle hairy scary stops at the intersections.

OK thanks guys. I unplugged my abs at the booster and now I can stop without feeling like I'm going to die but I want to just get rid of it all. Do I need the booster too or can I get by with just the master cylinder and proportioning valve?

If you have the stock booster, you need the booster and master cylinder off either a '95-'96 XJ other models will work, but I found that these years were easiest to swap in my XJ. The reason for the swap is the booster on '94 and earlier were single diaphragm and they went to a dual diaphragm in '95. Hope this helps.

Just bypass it completely and remove it. Pull the Relay, Fuses, and Dash light bulb.
I just Cut and pulled all the old wires from the sensors.
From there just run the 96+ Booster & Master Cylinder. Your proportioning valve is just fine. If you decide to go with 4-wheel disc brakes then you can run ZJ Valving.

My axles aren't stock so no sensors on any of my hubs. They have been cut at the fenders. I want to stay with my current axle setup so I will probably never go all wheel disk brakes and I will go tomorrow and get whatever else I need to do the swap. I will post progress pics when I do. Thanks for the help guys

Actually, the WJ booster is in some ways easier than the 95 to 96 XJ.
I've done both.
XJ, you don't have to mess with the firewall. No big deal anyway.
But, you have to move the washer reservoir. And, once the original booster comes out, the bracket inside the cab moves and makes it a bear to install the new booster.
WJ you have to bend or cut the firewall lip, but don't move the washer bottle.
As an added bonus, the mounting studs of the WJ booster are a bit smaller and it's easier to get in.
Another bonus with the WJ is that it has FLEXIBLE lines from the master cylinder that make putting things together MUCH easier.
And, WJ boosters are newer and easier to find…..

The shaft on the '97 is to long and would need to be shortened. Like I said your best bet is one out of a 95 or 96. and the other poster is right the 95-96 wj will work also. and other vehicles will work but I am sure of the 95-96 will work because that is what other threads have stated.
