Default Broken rustys parts.

Bought an adjustable trac bar and hd mount from rustys offroad 3 years ago. Last night LUCKILY coming off the freeway I noticed my steering was getting slightly softer to turn the wheels with less output. Pulled off the side of the road to find the trac bar broke at the weld near the adjuster.

Just a friendly heads up to everyone to keep an eye out for parts. Luckily it didn't completely break on the freeway. At 25mph I had death wobble worse than your standard loft DW issues.

Rustys was easily able to ship me a new one today and return postage for their old one back.

Hard to believe that it wasn’t welded to the threaded fitting.
Someone missed it all together it looks like.
The weld bead that’s there, does it look good? They just missed the joint?

That is totally irresponsible of them to even sell something like that.....

Somebody could have really been hurt from this.

AMEN! This really needs to be brought to everyone's attention, and rusty needs to pull it off the market until it's redesigned. This doesn't just put the guy who buys and drives it at risk... it puts the passengers in the little honda civic with the 2 car seats in back that you hit when you lost control of your jeep doing 70 because your track bar broke at risk and they never did anything to deserve it.

Id be a little hesitant to receive another Track-Bar From Rustys, you were on the street! Imagine this breaking out in the rocks somewhere. Oh what a joy that would be!
one of my track-bar's came off on the freeway when I owned my TJ scariest thing ive experienced, was going about 65, and almost went into the guard rail!

Failure from usage is different than failure from poor craftsmanship. Im suprised is hasn't failed offroad and lasted 3 years. Looks like it also put a nice dent in the oil pan.

It's Rusty's. Not the first time their trackbar has failed.

True and they all seem to fail in the same spot. They need to go back to the drawing board on their design.

^ THAT is not the same thing here. That's the TRE not the bar itself. You gotta feel for Rusty's on that one. You know there is no way they could have known the TRE would fail like that. Broken welds on the tube end insert is another thing.

Glad you didn't lose your rig.

could've been the same end result regardles... wherever your track bar breaks, there is no longer anything centering your axle under your vehicle, and you're lucky to bring it to a stop without some killing someone.

WTF is the difference? They both are complete failures of the track bar. Had he been in the same position as the wrangler in that link, this failure would have had the same outcome. I dont "feel" for a company that markets and sells a critical component like this, labeled as heavy duty, that is considerably undersized and (as we can see from this thread) not of high quality. To be honest, while I feel that Rusty's equipment is garbage along with everyone I wheel with, I think it is irresponsible for ANY company to sell an aftermarket track bar with a TRE or not make changes to a design with known failure problems. (Yes I am aware that the problem in this thread is neither a TRE failure or even a bar with a TRE)
