cutting coil springs
So I know that I am going to get alot of pushback for this, buuuut..... how bad is it to cut coil springs?? If you have a set that are too much lift, I am trying to figure out what the downsides would be to just cut some off... thoughts????

It can be done. It's been done for years to lower vehicles. Is it the correct way? No. Does it work? Yes. IMO you'd be better off to just sell or trade yours and buy the right size lift

I wouldnt even think about it with springs that are "variable" or "dual" rate.... or whatever they are called with different coil rates.... it seems straight forward with a regular coil though.... thanks for the input

It is not recommended. It can be done but the coil will no longer seat correct and the spring rate will increase which will effect ride. Google cutting coil springs and you will find plenty of articles and math demonstrating all the details.

No not on a 4wd you buy the correct coil because you want for it to seat correctly and have a decent ride. Besides coils for these are cheap new and used no reason to do it ever on them.

I cut one coil off a pair of 4.5" RC coils to reduce my lift from 6" to 5".
Ride was improved since a 6" lift on short arms is a bigger problem than the higher spring rate.
The axle side spring mounts seem to accommodate a cut spring fairly well. I used an angle grinder to cut mine and have no regrets.

^ I considered cutting coils also. But it is the retaining clip on coil bucket that concerns me. The last turn of coil is flattened out, when there is no load on springs, spring is not forcing against clip. But cut the coil and spring will fight that clip every time the suspension droops.

The coil will sit flush as long as you cut out the middle of the coil and then weld the top and bottom back together. Then it will seat properly and your coil will be shorter!
Haha J/K please don't do this...
