Drop Brackets to Long Arms - Who's done it?
I inherited a good set up of an RE 5" lift in the front. With 1" coil spacers I'm at 6". The PO stayed with the short arm RE kit but added drop brackets, so I get some pretty good flex.
So far this set up has been very good to me. Finally got the tramlining sorted with some more negative caster adjustment. But I'm beginning to wonder if I am missing out by not just biting the bullet and going long arm.
I know the topic of short arm vs. long arm has been beat to death on this and other threads, but I've not seen a direct comparison between those who have specifically gone drop bracket to long arm.
I'm curious to hear form anyone who has specifically gone from drop brackets to long arm: what's your opinion? was it worth it? what did you gain from it? were there any drawbacks? was just a bunch of time and money for no real gain? What are your thoughts.
Feel free to chime in, but make sure to tell us whether you went short/long or drop/long. I already know short/long there is no question.

You know the disadvantages of the drop I'm sure after reading for several years on half a dozen sites it became quite clear that long arms were the only direction I wished to follow.

From what I've seen drop brackets are the budget way of getting more flex and a centered axle but as you said you still get a lot of flex but with long arm you get A LOT of flex it seems. There's a video on YouTube that compares long arm and short arm and the pros and cons of each arm on the BleepinJeep page. It's an older video so you'll probably have to scroll down quite a bit to find it

been running drops for about 3 years. came on the jeep and def helped keep the axle more forward. I regularly drop them onto ledges when descending, usually into a trail. Not big deal, just don't try to back out and over a similar ledge, you'll get hung up for sure. blew a fuse after going down 2 big ledges. was a MAJOR PITA to get out. buddy winching it while I romped on the pedal
I'll move to long arms pretty soon, just trying to get a few other things done first. stiffeners/sliders namely.
you gonna build them or buy a kit?

Looking at IronMan Andy's set up if I end up going that route. I want to be able to control caster as I don't trailer, and this is the only one I have seen that allows for full adjustment of caster.
Still need to get it on a ramp and get some hard measurements. Right now my shocks are limiting my flex all the way around, so need to see what I can really do to figure out if the swap is worth it!
