Electric fan conversion
1999 XJ sport 4.0, 255k
Radiator cracked a while back so went w champion 3 row. This jeep cools really well but has leak in thermostat housing and so I figured ill go ahead and convert to electric fans, cause I like pain. Have better water pump to go with.
Original thought was use the spal 10in to be the main fan, using a sensor from the old clutch fan to activate the relay. But haven't really figured out where to catch that signal. Also wanted to use that old elec fan for the transmission(? I think) to active another fan, and the 3rd be on a switch.
Got pretty solid parts to use, been accumulating for about a year now.
Building a panel to go over the chassie wiring harnesses on the driver side to mount relays, fuses and a battery stud w 2 ga batt + wire. did the 2 gauge upgrade when I bought the jeep.
Any tips on how to get the signals for the fans to activate without having to drill into the radiator would be nice, although I guess that's not terrible to do.

Before you do the electric fan thing, make sure you have enough air moving through the radiator. I don't thing a 10" fan will cut it, although there is one that would by Derale. You need 1800 cfm from your main fan to match the mechanical fan. Most of those fans are 16" fans. I use a Ford Taurus fan that moves 3800 cfm that works great, does pull the amps and you need very heavy relays to handle the start up amps. Also I use a Chevy sensor in the manifold. You could put it inline I suppose. On at 205° and off at 195°

Hard to believe it will ever get hot enough in Wa to need more than that really.
