Made a flag mount for the 4th of July Parade I'm in this year.
2" square tube 9" long, 6ft of galvanized conduit and some drilling.
I made it so you could leave the hitch portion in place, and the conduit goes through the 2" and is pinned through both. This way you can easily and quickly remove the flag and store it in the Jeep without having to crawl or twist around trying to get the damn hitch mount pin out from behind the bumper. I put an angle on the through holes for the pole. Just my preference, but it turned out OK after a lil massaging of the hole sizes to get everything lined up. It's pretty stout, I doubled up the zipties for the flag grommets and I doubt I'd have an issue running the interstate with it. I used a scotchbrite pad on the tubing to get rid of the lettering and give it a dull finish. Here's the pics. Enjoy your independence... . . . .
