Default Fog lights

Hello all,

I need help installing fog lights on my 1998 Cherokee XJ sport.
1) It did not come with fog lights from factory
2) The switch panel did have a blank space, and wires running to it.
3) I installed a OEM fog light switch in said blank space, and plug matched.
4) I have a 12v 30 amp micro relay
A) Does it plug into fuse panel on the passenger side?
B) Does it plug into PDC under hood?
(My PDC does have a spot for fog lights, but no brass connectors
in the slots)
5) I have found 1 wire connector (grey) behind bumper, is this the infamous connector for the fog lights?
Thank you in advance!

It is actually quite a bit of work to install factory fogs.

The factory wiring, as you have discovered, goes from the switch panel to the PDC....and no further. You would need to find the wiring harness from the PDC to the fogs at a junkyard, and carefully remove it. That grey connector you found is actually for the Ambient Temperature sensor for use with the overhead console.

The whole process involves completely disassembling the PDC (both on your vehicle and the donor vehicle). Also, you'll need to make sure your donor vehicle is a 98 because wiring changed from year to year. I know that 2000-2001 will not work at all.

Thinking the one connector you found is for the ambient temp sensor you would have if you had an overhead console. I put fog lights in an '00 that did not come with them. Did a write up. Thinking this will help. Since I have done the install I have come across other factory type fog lights. I also listed the ones I used in the write up.

Damn, I was afraid that was the Ambient temp sensor. Thank you for your response. I'm guessing it MIGHT be easier to wire all new?

Yes the wiring for the switch is there, but no wiring under the hood. The switch wiring terminates at the main connector under the drivers dash. From there, on the firwall side of the connector, there is no wiring for the fog lights. Your options are to either run new wires, or splice into the two required wires on the cab side of the main connector and run all the under hood wiring. As you found out, the Cherokee utilized relays in the PDC for the fog lights, but if your Cherokee was not equipped, there is no wiring nor terminals in the PDC.
