Gearing Down D30 and C8.25
I have a D30 Front high pinion front axle and a C8.25 rear axle under my 1998 Cherokee, Im running 33 right now but plan on upgrading to 35 once the tread is worn down of my current tires. I would Like to run 4.88 gears and as well as a aussia locker in the rear with a ox locker in the front. Does anyone know of places that have good deals on gear packages. Also is anyone running a setup like this and what would you change and what do you like? These are not cheap parts so I would like to get it right the first time. Thanks for the input.

I got my Nitro gears from justdifferentials.com, they had the best price that I could find and the owners customer service was second to none.
I will buy all my gears and axle parts from them from now on.
i got my rear aussie from knowwheretojeep.com and they were also very good.
Im not sure if they sell OX though. I wanted to run one too, but i cant justify the money on a D30. So I have an aussie up front now too.

rear lockers dont effect the drive much unless your turning tight corners or u turns.
front lockers dont effect the drive unless they are locked all the time.

dude, you need to check your info.
lockright is a brand name. they lock when power is applied and the center pin drives the side gears apart against the outer gears to lock both axles together.
I drive mine everyday, all back roads, 21-22 miles each way to work. I do drive on the highway too, just not a lot. but it drives great. The rear locker is very predictable, once you get used to it. Im used to driving drag cars with spools etc so Im kind of used to it anyway.
You cant even tell the front locker is there unless you take a real sharp turn then you can hear it click, sometimes its a little grabby and you feel it, but who cares, its a locked jeep.
On the highway, you wouldnt know it wasnt stock. And off road its amazing, locking the rear makes such a difference, but once the front is locked too, oh man.

I went with 4.10s and a Detroit soft locker for running 33's and will go with a tru trac front when the opportunity presents. The gears made a huge difference and the Detroit locker is hugely aggressive. Much taller of a gear and you'll sacrifice highway power in overdrive, I went 4.10 for a well rounded package. But that's personal preference. The locker added so much traction I hardly use four wheel drive. As for the cost, no bull it's expensive up wards of 3000 if you not careful. I first got a good feel for the avg retail price of the parts then haggled with my local axle trans guy till the figures were right. Alot of the experience came down to personal preference. If your in metro detroit I could point you to the guy that did mine.
