Help with rear leafs / shackles
Hey guys,
I bought an '00 XJ recently and it was lifted, on blocks in the rear. I "think" the front is a 4.5" RE lift based on the springs and colors of the components but I have a few questions:
1. if I have 4.5" springs, is it a 4.5" lift and how can I tell? Would there be 4.5" springs on a 3.5" lift?
2. Depending on what I have, what is my best option to put new leafs / shackles in the rear to correct for the ghetto-ness? Adjustable shackles? I'm pretty new to leaf vehicles so bear with me!
How would you do it?
Thanks!

Grats on the XJ and welcome!
4.5" lift springs are called that because they lift the Jeep 4.5"., so, that's a big "No" to #1
Two ways to measure the amount of lift you have, the most common is from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender flare (if you still have them). The stock measurements are 17" front and 17.5" rear. A 4.5" lift should net you 21.5" front and 22" rear. Alternatively you can measure from the top of the axle tube to the frame rail, I can't remember these numbers offhand.
Blocks are nasty, most people will recommend something like 3.5" springs and a 1" lift shackle, or some combination therein. Depending on length of leaf spring shackle relocation boxes may be in order. You will want to actually verify the front first before messing with the back. RE springs are sometimes known for giving more lift than advertised.
