No power steering after WJ PS pump swap.
Everything I’ve done-
1. New return and High pressure lines
2. XJ pulley and fitting(drilled out to match WJ) on the WJ pump and reservoir
3. Bled system
4. Verified fluid
5. Verified belt
6. Removed E fan
7. Capped the fitting on the side of the WJ pump, put return hose to the bottom 1/2 fitting, and connected the 1/2 return hose to the 3/8 XJ return hose going to the steering box with clamps and a hose coupler.
What I dealt with before -
Reason I changed the pump was because, when I bought the Jeep it had PS. no noticeable leaks but over time it slowly stopped working. By the last time I drove it, it would jerk like it was in 4wd on turns and when driving slow it would work significantly less. It would also groan an insane amount with even the slightest touch of the steering wheel. Decided to replace and upgrade and put the WJ pump on. When taking the pump off I saw the PO fixed what I’m assuming was a hole in the high pressure hose with duct tape and zip ties. I replaced both hoses.
Now I’m here and don’t have any power steering. I am only really available to work on it on weekends so I don’t have much time to figure it out myself. Any ideas?
Pic attached is the high pressure hose where I connected the 1/2 to 3/8. The yellow cap to the right of the pic is the line on the side of the pump that’s capped.


i can grab ps pumps for $15 at the local jy but i'd prefer to not just spend money if theres an issue that sticks out to someone else. if all else fails i think i will grab another wj pump and if that fails too i will grab a stock xj pump and just run that .
