Jeep 4.0 exhaust questions
I have an 88 5 speed with no cat and a thrush welded muffler. The exhaust is full length and turns down at the end. I love how my Jeep sounds but I want it just a tiny bit louder. Would removing the turn down and putting on a straight exhaust tip make it louder? Any input is greatly appreciated.

I have heard that 4.0 need backpressure and if you don't have any you will lose power. I don't want to lose any power so I don't want to get rid of my muffler. I have looked into doing that but have decided against it

First off broke a forum rule. Can't talk about catalytic removal. Second, I ripped my muffler off when I was wheeling and couldn't tell a difference on the ride home. I did still have a cat though. I have a friend who removed his muffler and replaced it with pipe and hasn't complained about power loss. Looks bolted on so try taking it off and see how it feels/sounds without it. If you like it then straight pipe if you don't put it back together.

no emissions tests here in South Carolina and I'm sure tons of people do it. Still not allowed to be discussed. I was just warning you for future notice before you get in trouble.

Back on topic could you just unbolt it and try it out? That's how it looks from the pictures. Also it hangs really low in my opinion. Mine was higher than that when I ripped it off.

Your not going to lose any power unless your butt tries to tell you that the jeep "seems" like it did. If you do it is so minimal you will never notice it.
I run a hi flo magnaflow cat on my ZJ and that's it. Sounds like crap.. but as far as power loss goes, never noticed a damn thing with all the different exhausts I've ran, and I've had a lot of setups.
Now is there probably a difference between stock exhaust and 4 inch pipe from the manifold back? Yes. But in your case and most cases, don't worry about back pressure too much

I had my post deleted and got a warning from a moderator for discussing catalytic converter removal in response to a poster who talked about it but used c????? to block from outright saying it.
As said above, it is a Federal Law that catalytic converters CAN NOT be removed and against the forum rules here to discuss it.
