I don't think so. I swapped between manual and power seat brackets on mine. Didn't use a WJ seat, but the seat bolted right from one onto the other.

I did the passenger's side first thinking that if I screwed up or ran in difficulties I could at least still drive my Jeep!

I have a parts jeep with seats in it I can experiment with but I like where your head is at! I'll I should need to do is bolt a few pieces of flat stock together, if it doesn't work I can just put the stock seat back in.

Found a cheap one on Ebay to play with and tried it out.
I just did it on the passenger side. Lets me lean the seat forward a little more in case I want to put something longer in the Jeep.
And am to lazy to strap it to the roof. LOL.

Does anyone know if this will work on the 96 and earlier XJ's. Great tip Ralph!

Not really that big a deal but thanks anyway. LOL.
Not that I would know for sure but thinking no.
But I never took apart '96 and down XJ seats so....
I did find this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/12449903415...iABEgJavPD_BwE

Seller sells for '95 and up. And cause of the introduction of air bags in XJ's might be correct in his application for what it fits.
And if that is true then no reason you could not do it in '95 or '96.

I think this might be what you are talking about.
But there is a rear seat in there so......
I came across it on the internet and saved it to my computer.
Thinking I would install that if I ever got lucky and found the parts to do so. LOL.

Question Jeep Grand Cherokee Passenger Seat to XJ driver seat swap

I wanted to post in this thread before making a new one. Lot of experts here who have actually done swaps. I want to replace my 96 Jeep XJ drivers seat (beige/tan color) due to the inevitable cloth tearing foam degradation as you slid in the seat. I found an immaculate 2004 WJ passenger seat in beige color at a local recycling place. The drivers side had been already sold. I know the passenger and drivers are not interchangeable in the XJ (ask me how I know ), and from searching the web this applies to WJ's as well.
So my question is this: If I buy the WJ passenger seat, can I take the foam and cloth off of it and replace those items on the driver side XJ?
My first thought is no, since the driver/passenger on both models are not interchangeable, but I wanted to ask for opinions first.

Thanks for any advice

I found a potential donor for XJ leather. Well, maybe it's leatherette, but so is the XJ "leather" back seat.

Since I found an import with a gray leather(ette) headrest back seat, the search was on for ZJ or WJ gray leather front seats. After months of searching, they were all busted. Every one of them were in such pitiful shape, driver and passenger sides. So I gave up searching for Jeep seats and started to branch out to other makes. I looked through the Ford section, then gradually made my way to the GM section (local U-pull-it). Finally I found the right color leather in a 2007 Buick Lacrosse. Ok, so it's not exactly the same color, but it's close enough for my liking. The seat rails unbolt without much fuss. You have to unsnap the front of the seat skin and pull back the foam, but it's not hard. The bottom of the seat pan is fairly flat, so I should be able to adapt this easily. I also mocked it up in an XJ in the junkyard, and they seem to fit fairly well.

(Not sure why the photo is showing up sideways)

Smile New Guy's First question

Hi all!
This is my first post so go easy on me

Has anyone installed brackets from a later model in a earlier style?

I have a 93 and the seat pans are shot. I can fab whatever is needed.

My thinking is that if all that is needed are bolt hole changes or studs installed, I'll try to find a stock 97-01 set and go from there.

Thanks again

Jeff

I'm not familiar with the '97-01 models but in '95 a metal cross brace was added to the floor boards and the rear of the seat brackets bolt to it. Your '93 seat brackets would bolt straight to floor. Those braces can be purchased new and are pretty straight forward to weld in.

Same setup in the 97+. Once they changed the mount in 95 they kept it till 01. The front of the seat rails bolt to the bracket added. The rear of the tracks still bolt to the floor.
