Full spool will definitely be stronger, mini-spool will not. If anything a mini-spool would be weaker just cause they have slop in them that gets looser and looser over time till they fail, welded spiders wont have that slop. That being said welded spiders will only be as strong as the welder (person), the welder (machine), and the prep to make sure they are spotless clean.

Bake your spiders in the oven before you weld them. This will draw out any oil that is soaked into them.

So since no one makes spools for the 8.25 my best bet would be to jst weld it up like i originally planned to do

If the guy welding the spiders knows what he is doing then strength is a moot point. weld the spiders to eachother, then to the carrier. I like making 2 or 3 passes when i do it.

A stick welder does great. Although idk if the members have access to one.

X2 to all of the above. It's no different than taking a turn under throttle with a mechanical locker. Same concept. As with any car, learn to drive. My advice, don't wheel it immediately. Get the feel for it on a dirt road or even the "bunny slope." if youve driven a locked vehicle than fantastic. Good luck!
