Doors aren't structural. They are not part of the unibody. The roof on the other hand ties everything together making it structural.

And yes, my old Jeep made a ton more noise and creaks when I cut a large hole in it before I put the sunroof in.

You don't seem too familiar with how a unibody works

The roof is nothing more than a panel. It's no more structural than any of the other sheet metal is. Yes, it ties structural components together and provides for some rigidity, but that does not make it structural. The pillars are what's structural.

It's no different than a house. The plywood on the roof isn't structural, the framing is. The roof in your Jeep isn't structural, the pillars (the framing) is.

still wrong. peel the roof off a cherokee and it will fold in half. the roof panel is drawn and formed for rigidity, giving it STRUCTURE. Adding the pillars to the roof combines both sub-structures into one....STRUCTURE.

if the roof of a house has no sheathing, it has no structure either. you can lash all of the trusses together, but you could still push it over because it has nothing to tie it together. i've framed a lot of houses. man you are full of **** today.

The pillars are tied together in the roof and the bracing that runs under the outer roof skin making it part of the structure

Oh nevermind I understand.

To the previous question..you'd probably gain a little support if you weld in 97+ hatch to seal off the cargo area. 97+ are steel and anything below had fiberglass hatches. Unibody stiffeners and sliders will stiffen it up some too. Honestly if this is just a street rig you'll hardly be able to tell the back is cut structural wise.

yeah thought about it but I kinda want to leave it open and seal off the back with a cloth top like a wrangler when it's cold or raining out.

for now it's mostly a street jeep I do some light trails but for now until I can get to doing a lift but that's another day.
