New Tire Choice Help
My 265x75R16 Interco Trxus MT tires are in need of replacing. I liked these tires (especially for their traction in snow), but I want something with better road manners as I am not off road as much as I used to be. Here's the choices that I like:
interco trxus sts 33x12.5x16
interco vortrac 285x75x16
dick cepek radial fcII 265x75x16
procomp all terrain radial 265x75x16
Mickey thompson baja atz radial plus 265x75x16
My favorite choice is the trxus sts, but I'm not sure I can squeeze on the extra size (4in lift). Any opinions/experience?
thanks,
Dave

FCII great all around tire. There are better mud and rock tires but if you want both FCII's, great tread life two. Just be honest with yourself on where your going use it.

The FCIIs get my vote, like said they will last a pretty long time and perform imo a decent bit better then most every other AT tire. The M/Ts are my second choice cause they are just all around good tires also, but not as good off the pavement as the FCIIs. I personally love the STSs since the majority of my wheeling is done on the beach, there is no better sand tire for a normal street driven truck imho. However, like all other Interco tires they don't have the best of road manners. They'll flat spot over night, hydroplane very easily, suprisingly noisy, and definitely won't get the same treadlife as the FCIIs or ATZs or even the Pro Comps for that matter.

Jeezus Christ I feel like these guys should pay me for how often I rep this tire...
Wrangler DuraTrac's. Show me an AT tire with more aggressive lugs, siping galore and a 10 ply tread. I have run these tires in the 235/75 variety for 3 years straight (as of September, that is) and although I plan on getting another set of DuraTrac's for winter, the set I have on now would do ok. I'd probably just need 4wd more often. They are quiet, handle well on pavement and have taken me thru some pretty deep mud. On an open and worn out diff, too!
What about that snow? The DuraTrac is insane in the snow! Lots of siping and, if you wanted to go all out and dedicate them as your winter tire, they are studable. Pretty sure the only other option for more grip would be mattracks. Haha.. So there's my two Lincoln's.
^good lugs, great siping
Only one I can find with ok view of tires..

X2 for the GY Duratrac
I sell them at work for the local police for their trucks that patrol the canyons and trails up the canyons on their F150's They have no issue with all of the snow October-May

The Good Year MTR is too aggressive and not enough siping for snow. The cooper ST maxx looks good. My XJ will see pavement and snow. I need something quieter than my trxus mt's, but very good in snow. Sounds like the STS is not a good choice. Anyone have experience with the FCII or baja in the snow?

General Grabber AT2s would be my choice for the best pavement and snow tire on the market. More siping then the Duratrac, can be gotten in lower load ranges to be more flexible off road, last thing you want from a snow/ice tire is for it to be super stiff, it also can be studded too if need be. I ran them for about 40K on my Dakota and then my Brother ran them on his ZJ for another 15-20K, both of us loved them. My $.02 fwiw.
