Out with the carpet in with the bed liner
So i've been contemplating gutting my jeep tearing out my carpet and just bed lining the entire floor along with treating any rust with rust solvent like POR-15. I'm not doing this just on a whim there's a hole in the driver side floor pan and its starting to smell musty and looks like the carpet is starting to rot out too. So instead of getting a new carpet and replacing the floor pan I'm thinking this may solve the problem. I know a lot of others have done this any advice on what to use and the best way to do it? Also I'm going to be doing this myself and I don't want to spend to much on it.

Sounds like you have the right idea- pull carpets, remove rust, spray rustoleum, bed line. But if you have a hole, your best to take a piece of sheet metal, 16 ga. works well, and cover hole with it. You don't need to buy a new floor pan, if it's on a curved area just take a hammer and bash it till it bends to be shape you want.

I had my carpet out last summer ('10) to fix a punky rust spot in the drivers footwell. I then also rubberized undercoated the entire cabin floor. 2 coats brushed on.
It was loud and hot with out carpet before I coated, and after letting it cure for a week I reinstalled the carpet knowing the floor was protected from the inside out, and the sound level was more tolerable, and my coffee didn't tip over anymore.
I wouldn't run without carpet if I didn't have to. my .02

I'll have more pics soon. I blew my bandwidth out of the water on photobucket this month lol. If someone twists my arm I might upload just a couple pics to the other bucket and post em in here sooner than the 16th when the bucket comes back online.

Well I had a leaky door seal and had cut out the driverside carpet a while ago and on an extended trip, 100+ mi, the transmission tunnel would get noticably hot, especially to the touch, now I don't even notice it. I even put my hand on there after a long trip and it didn't get hot
So to sum it up, yes it helped with insulation, and would do it again in a heartbeat
The silver damp has a thicker foil. http://secondskinaudio.com/products/AlphaDamp.php The shinny foil should be scuffed prior to bedlining, but the black foil doesn't matter.
