Default painting my xj need opinions!

kso i work at an autobody and paint shop. I can paint my own jeep, however to do it in the shop i have to rent the booth bc of electricity and pay for base coat clear coat paint bc it needs to be durable on the trails. I was thinking what if i just used my own paint and painted it on a nice day outside? i dont have a garage but i figured if i get trail rash i can touch it up easier and i wont be pissed bc i spent 200 bucks on my paint job. or i could rattle can it!. I mean i am icar certified for surface prep and i am a painters helper that does surface prep by myself. whats you guys' opinions?

Depends on the look you want. If you can get it out of the wind you can paint it outside. You risk getting stuff in the paint as you know. I've seen trucks painted with a roller that turned out pretty darn good.

First I would ask, why paint it at all if you're just going to take it out in the woods and beat the crap out of it?

If you want it to look nice most of the time $200 is dirt cheap for a paint job. You could throw a few more coats of clear on it and keep buffing it out for a few years before you would have to repaint again.

This is all being covered in a pretty active thread elsewhere that you can look at but here's my input.
http://www.valsparglobal.com/val/res...alspar_imp.jsp Valspar implement paint. Limited colors, but its cheap, easy to shoot and wears like iron. Future touch up shouldn't be an issue. Use the hardener to speed dry time and promote shine.
https://www.dipyourcar.com/home.php Shoot the thing with plastidip through a Wagner power sprayer. You can do this outside easy.

I did a rattle can job on mine. Krylon Navy Blue, Ace Hardware Chrome Aluminum and Ace Hardware Clear. Did a boat load of light coats and laid a bunch of clear on and is doing alright. I painted this in my garage with a fan blowing everything out doors so the fumes weren't too bad.

The clear isn't too bad. It just isn't think like auto clear is. I think it would be cool and super cheap to rattle can it then spray auto clear on tip of that. It would be hard like auto paint and not have the expensive base coats. Am I right or would they interact with eachother?

Yes they do. You just don't use a glossy clear.
