Performance Cam Install Price?
I've been thinking about putting a new cam in the 4.0 for a while. I've found a few kits for around $135-150. I'm not super knowledgable when it comes to large engines. I'm definitely not comfortable tearing the whole damn thing apart. So my question is if I buy the kit how much do you think is a fair price for labor? Just don't want to get screwed over by a local shop. Thanks

Oughta ask a local shop. It's not gonna be cheap by any means and the results won't be that great anyway as the 4.0 has a pretty darn good cam in it already.

There are very few (if any) on the shelf, after market larger than stock camshafts for a 1998/2001 4.0l. I believe you might find a custom cam grinder but the cam blank may still be the older style. At 1998 the cam retaining system was changed to a cover and the after market has not kept up with the change. You can install an earlier year cam shaft however, the timing gear set must change also. IMO the stock cam performs well in most cases, unless you have had bigger valves and head work done.
