pulling front driveshaft to use in rear -question
so this summer im planning on lifting my jeep 4.5 inches, and i heard im most likely going to have to get a sye and a cv driveshaft. alright yeah, no problem, on problem is that i really dont have that much $$$$$$.
Ive done some homework and read that you can just go to the junk yard and pull the front driveshaft from an xj and use it in the rear.
SWEET. but i have a couple questions.
1. Do i still need a sye kit????
2. ive also read about "hack n taps" WHAT ARE THESE.
3. PRETTY MUCH HOW DO YOU PUT THE FRONT DRIVESHAFT AND PUT IT IN THE REAR??
if anyone could help me it would be very helpful!

To use a front driveshaft in the rear at 4.5"s you have to have a C8.25.
Yes you also need to have a SYE.
I run this setup. Works great.

A D30 is the front axle. All xj's have them. In the rear you either have a D35 or a C8.25. I believe with a 2000 you would have a C8.25. The reason people use a front in the rear is because it is the correct length. A D35 is to far away and would allow the driveshaft to pull apart under heavy articulation/wheeling. You should be able to run it.

I have a Rubicon SYE. All the front drive shafts should be the same. (Someone correct me if I am wrong here.) On modification you have to take the double cardian joint apart so you can bolt it to the SYE.

On the front shaft that you will put in the rear you have to take out the u-joint that was closest to the transfer case. Then you have to put ( in my case) the double cardan cv flange yoke with its u-joint on the end of it. Then just bolt it to the SYE.
