Rear diff noise...
Hello all,
so this XJ I bought in June and drove home 40+ miles with no noise coming from the rear diff, is now making rear diff noise.
I did lift it 3 in, and worked to get the vibration fixed from the different angles between the t-case and rear diff, by installing rear axle shims.
They're now at 10.9 degrees and 10.5 degrees, so within the 2 degrees I've read online as being needed.
I also did a drain and fill of the rear diff, not noticing anything wrong when I did it.
Any thoughts appreciated on what this noise might be coming from. (Check the short videos to hear the noise)
I'm willing to open up the rear diff to check it again, just confused as to why there was no noise before but now there is.
Thanks

Not uncommon for the u-joints to generator a noise after a lift. They're operating in a different position now.

Thank you.
The noise is coming from the differential though, unless the rear u-joint is passing the noise through to the diff...
And again, I've got the angles to where there shouldn't be an issue according to what I've read online.

The ujoints Maße a wear pattern for milliins of Revolution at stock height now youve lifted it changed the angle now the bearings are wearing in a new area.
Ujoints arent exspensive but I wont say theyre easy to change because it seems most screw them up even many who think they dont.
Pull drive line and wrap a bag around the output and run it in 4wd see if the noise goes away.
I recently went from 2" to 4-5" lift I vould swear my throw out bearing is going out but its most likely my driveline only does it at 65-70mph. And after adding more lift.

you might be loading the yoke/pinion bearing or its not properly lubricated due to the angle caused by the axle shims. Jack up the axle as high as you can get it and then add more fluid. If the front is angled up , then the back is angled down and the hole sits lower so there is less gear oil inside the diff. and now the pinion is higher than the oil level and running dry
