rustys flares
looking to trim my fenders for a lcog build on my 2000 xj...im trying not to go over 3 in of lift with 33x10.5's....anyhow how much trimming can i do to the sheet metal with the rustys flares? my issue right now is the front tire grabbing the backside of the wheel well, and now that its bent in it grabs it easily. I would just trim and run no flares, but the local PA police suck something awful. is it pretty easy to trim and put these flares on with it looking clean?

The flares that allow the biggest tires I have seen are the Iceland offroad ones. They claim 35s with just 4" of lift and no rubbing. So I would assume 33s and 3" of lift would be perfect with those flares.

you could just make your own flares out of lawn edging and cut as much as you want not to mention its way cheaper and they dont have to look horrible
mine cost less than $40 for all four of em

i like the cost of the lawn edging flares and ive seen enough writeups that i feel like i could do it in my sleep...how hard are the lawn edging flares to put on and off...im thinking maybe just put them on for inspection and telling the cops to beat feet....x2 on rustys service and i like the iceland flares except for that little piece that goes on the rear door like BW cutouts have...leaning towards lawn edging

i like the looks of that just think if you shaped them more like the BW dlat flares and fabbed the edges better so you couldnt tell they were made from yard trim these flares would be great, my only question how do they handle trail abuse?

You can do a 2in cut and fold using 96 and older flares like this one I did for my brother. Now he has a 4.5 in lift and 34's in the pic
Then he wanted to go to 35's but didn't want to shell out the cash for the icelanders, so I did the same cut (deseaming the rear quarters and cutting 4in total front and rear) then welding the quarters back together and hanging another set of old style flares.
I really like how it turned out and 35's with 4.5 lift is keeping it LCG..

I don't have a write up but all I do is cut what I want, then trim the flare to fit. I do swap the front flares pass for drivers so I don't have a gap. Then I put the flares on with 3in self tappers, remove the flares and drill out the holes to fit carriage bolts. Then bolt them on permanently letting the square part of the carriage bolt sink into the soft flare giving it a smooth look. Then paint the carriage bolt or leave it silver. Take your time and get them level and it's easy and cheap, I'll see if I can find more pis.

did you look into doing this with the 97+ flares? would they work also or no? i like that style flare alot better.
