Default Saving space wherever i can- extra space in a jeep? HAH

Hey everyone, so i was looking at my freinds cold air intake the other day and realized how much space he freed up by taking out that old stock air box... but it got me thinking...

has anyone done any mods to make more space in the engine compartment? ive always liked the cowl snorkel idea personally, but that just make things more cluttered...
even some pics of some other space-saving ideas would be nice to see also. I am planning on taking out the trim in the rear and making some wooden box-type storage bins with a sub enclosure also in it..... but it sure would be nice to finally get rid of the milk crates full of tools and recovery stuff.. hahah

but yah, post some pics or spit out some ideas? thanks dudes and dudettes.

Is this your daily driver? You can move your battery into your cab behind the driver and passenger seat. You could also move your air filter into the cab (ill put up pics when I get off work) but that might be a little difficult if its your DD

Racks like rear tire carriers and roof cages can get a lot of stuff inside outside.

You can move things around too, like relocating the battery to the other side of the engine bay. You could delete your a/c... depends on what you're willing to sacrifice to open things up. An electric fan conversion can free up some space by removing that airplane propellor on the front of the engine. Be careful mounting a battery inside; you'll want to vent the box outside of the cabin as most batteries gas-out over time. You also run the risk of shorting the battery without a local fuse and that much heavy-gauge wire running nearly the length of your XJ.

Simplify. Get one, solid, dialed-in tool set and the essential flares, jumper cables, etc into a single compact box. Stanley & Husky make a water-sealed box that's durable and can be found at HomeDepot & Lowes. An extra serpentine belt and u-joint make for small packable backups.

A sub, now that's a space waster. Get a red cherry bomb exhaust for sound instead : )

I'm running a performance air intake (I hesitate to call it "cold air") and it helps the engine breath and frees up space. But I'm more at risk for hydro locking (or my kids are) so I'm going to the cowl intake when I get a chance.

I've been thinking about a jeep or Bronco II rear tire mount at the junkyard. The problem is that every day my kids pop the rear hatch and throw their books and sports equipment in the back. So I think that would be a pain. I keep my crap in a plastic bin with a lid in the back and under the rear seat.

Someone posted a pretty sweet diy roof rack, but I'd probably just use it on trips if I built it as it would cut MPG.

The Cherokee isn't that big, it has about the same footprint and interior space as my wife's Matrix so there are always trade offs.

yeahh i actually picked up the other day a tire carrier from a rodeo with all the latching mechanisms for 20 bucks at the junkyard....

but yeah i found this thread for the cowl snorkel and i like the idea of it
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/c...d-how-1008105/

also, yeah yeah yeah i know a 12 inch sub isnt exactly a space saver (i cant drive without it :P) ... but if i can make something that is a mix between this....

and a box/ storage bin that will just cover up the wheel well area.

and i actually do have a rack that i made heres the thread:

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/25...ht-bar-112606/

and a pic:

but i dont like putting a ton of stuff up there because i DO like savin on mileage.

i was thinking of relocating my batt to the left side of the engine compartment like mentioned above.. i feel like that would give me a good amount of room.

also, i heard if you remove your engine, you can create room too?

dont put your battery inside the jeep unless you have a sealed battery.

^^THIS.

Lead acid batteries give off hydrogen gas, which is flammable and harmful if inhaled.

I took a BFH to the drive shaft tunnel under my backseat and smashed it down, I have my hi-lift, extra front and rear drive shafts, front shafts and some other misc other trail gear.

I had my battery relocated to my trunk in my hatch back Eclipse.

It was in a very nice, sealed and properly vented box. Never once did I have an issue.

But to each their own.

I have an Odyssey 680 drycell battery relocated into the lock box on my CRX and have never had issues either. 10+ years like this and not 1 issue.
