Default Steering Setup

98' XJ 4.5 RE lift. I put a HD steering setup on awhile back tie rod, drag link and track bar. I do not run a sway bar, or steering dampener at all. I have noticed over past few months that my tires are wearing on the outside really bad. What are your thoughts on fixing this problem? I can post some pics later if need be. Thanks guys

Could be a bad alignment but, chances are, your ball joints or wheel bearings are toast.

I have gone exactly the same route, same XJ same lift. Had multiple alignments done by pros, and did not like the steering. I originally swapped the tie rod for the RE beefier one, the track bar for the RE HD setup and a longer pitman.

Did not like the steering and the bump steer generated. Changed the setup with the Serious Offroad UTK kit and the problems went away almost totally..

couldn't it just be toe-in adjustment?

To have the tires wear like that, it would be camber, which is not adjustable on the XJ (other than using adjustable ball joints)..

Correct, excessive toe-in will cause scuffing and/or shoulder wear. Takes 2 minutes to measure.

Exactly, I have a 4 1/2" lift with the ZJ TRE's and have never taken it to a shop for an alignment and have no issues at all. Just to easy to do at home and for an off road rig a lot cheaper as they get beat around quite a bit, and you can do it often like Steve says.
