they tell them to search 87-89 wagoneer xjs, because they are the most xjs common that came with the factory REAR XJ d44. they are a direct swap for XJs. they are only talking about the REAR.
pingpong knows his axles....trust me on that.
OP-try to get them a little cheaper. around colorado you can get front and rear axles from the jy for about $250

I think you need to check your facts.
87-89 Xj's came with a rear d44, there are rumors that SOME EXPORT XJ's came with a front d44, but I have never actually seen one. Also I have yet to talk to someone who has seen a d44 front axle in any xj that wasnt swapped in.
They also came in the 86-92 Comanche w/ Metric Tonne option.

To the OP I would say keep looking for 80-84 Wagoneer axles and/or find a front from a 70-76 ford.
Let me end some of the Wagoneer confusion here. The full size Grand Wagonner was available from 1963-1991, was full leaf sprung, and had a Dana 44 front and rear. From 1984-1990 there was a version of the Cherokee XJ that was called Wagoneer, but it was identical to the standard XJ (no dana 44 front axle) except that it had 4 headlights. Jeep Cherokees from 1987 - 1989 with the 1 ton towing package had a Dana 44 rear, but still had a Dana 30 front. Those are the rear axles that most Cherokee owners look for as they are a direct swap. The Grand Wagoneer axles that the OP is considering purchasing are a little wider than stock XJ axles, but still narrower than a standard full size truck Dana 44 which makes them a popular option for an XJ axle swap because you can put them in without narrowing them and your tires wont stick out too far. Of course do so you would still have to cut off the leaf pearches on the front and install coil buckets and rotate the knuckles to adjust the castor which is why I suggested taking a little extra effort and narrowing a high pinion ford Dana 44 to fit Wagoneer axle shafts instead. If you take the time to read this link it gives a very detailed description of all the best available options for getting a Dana 44 front axle under a Cherokee.

Your facts are spot on... It was Jamie57 who was arguing about his xj waggy having a d44 front.

Could have sworn my 88 front was different too.

I remember someone on here from the UK stating he had front and rear d44s.

The person who said he had a export xj with a d44 front said he was from South America.. If I recall right.. it was brazil, but I cant swear to it. Like I said I heard of the d44 front, but I never saw a pic, and I havent talked to anyone directly who has seen one. Kinda a unicorn.
I can say I have seen a AMC 20 under a 85 MJ, and it was stock Too bad the guy who had it was a hoarder of jeeps and wont come off of it.
