The THOR Cowl Induction Install Write Up
INTRO
Hey there guys, I recently teamed up with THOR to develop the 3rd Gen Cowl Induction Kit. At the time of this posting, there is no other cowl induction kit being sold on the market. Mind you folks this is a 2 man operation now. Twice the manpower! https://tinyurl.com/COWLINTAKES
We teamed up with BleepinJeep to create an install video (http://tinyurl.com/XJCowlVideo), but I believe in the good ol' forums as a daily reader.
Here I will be describing the installation and answering any questions as there are a lot of misconceptions.
The Kit we developed in this next generation highlights a one-piece designed aluminum tube made in America. This whole kit is sold for 225$ at the time of this posting.
Many people ask why a Cowl Intake? It acts just like the Snorkel we are all familiar with but does not use the stock airbox and it is much more subtle. By removing the stock airbox a TON of free space is created for a second battery (dirtbound offroad sells the battery tray for it) or an air compressor for onboard air.
Bonus: In September of 2019 we were able to pass the CA Emissions tests and this product is now smog-legal in all 50 states! CARB ID: D-822
THE KIT
1x 3" Diam Aluminum Tube
1x Filter Heat Shield
1x Conical Performance Air Filter
1x 3" 90° Rubber Elbow
2x Hose Clamps with bolt
1x Traditional Hose Clamp
4x 1/4" Self Tap Screws
2x "THOR Cowl Induction" hood decal
1x CARB Legal Sticker if you are in CA
TOOLS NEEDED
-1/2in Socket
-10mm Socket
-Philips Head Drill
-Cutting tool (Dremel/4.5" Grinder)
THE INSTALL
Step One: Remove Stock Airbox (1/2in Socket) and move Wiring Harness/EVAP MOnitor (10mm) out of the way by cutting the zip ties.
Step Two: Cover Throttle Body
Step Three: Mark and Drill the Screw Holes. I needed to bend the head shield for a tighter fit, but it should still be able to let water through. The heat shield acts as a water drain exit.
Step Four: Mark cutting perimeter and cut. Keep test fitting the filter until it easily fits all the way in the cowl.
Step Five: Slide heat shield on and clamp the Filter onto the tubing with the traditional hose clamp. Then move to the Throttle Body. Clamp Rubber Elbow to the throttle Body with the bolt hose clamps.
Step Six: Bolt in Heat Shield, re-attach the breather hose, and relocate the EVAP Monitor that was unbolted. Done!
Optional: Install THOR Cowl Induction Decals to flex on the kids with snorkels.

As a very meaningful update to this write-up:
In September of 2019 we acquired our license from CARB (California Air Resource Board) which regulates smog legality on aftermarket parts. The THOR Cowl Intake is now smog legal in all 50 states! This is a great assurance for all of us who want to run 2 battery setups/compressors without removing it for smog.

There is definitely an audible sound from the intake while driving. It is really something to get used to but by now I don't really think of it. Some really like it and others don't. With huge tires though it fits in with the many sounds your jeep will make at speed.
