Tire Size and Backspacing For Aftermarket Wheels?
Ok, a couple of questions....first will a stock tire size...225/75R15 fit on an aftermarket 15x8 wheel? I am asking because original wheel size was 15x7. If not, what size tire fits on a 15x8 wheel? Second, what backspacing should I get if I don't want the wheel to stick out past the fenders? I believe the original wheel backspacing is 5.25"? Thanks.

Did you mean the 225's would fit on a 15x8 wheel? By the sounds of your post I could go a bit wider with the tires on the wheels....any suggestions on a good width (nothing crazy) for a 15x8 while still keeping the wheels/tires flush with the fenders?

Not sure on whats done to your jeep...but if its stock i hear you can go up to a 235/75r15, and again if you stay from 4.5-5" backspacing they will stay inside your fenders.

This is one of the options I have come up with in my search for new wheels...I think this is my best option so far. I want to keep the width of the wheel/tires no further than flush with the fenders. Do you think the size of this wheel would do the job? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. Yes, the jeep is currently stock. Good to know I might be able to go up to 235's. I just posted a link to some wheels that I think might fit what I am looking to do.

Thanks once again.
Here is another option I found...4" backspacing vs 4.75" backspacing though. Also, aluminum vs steel wheels.
Thoughts on this wheel vs other I posted? Will these also stay flush with or inside fenders?

In my personal opinion, i like that set better...they're not just the average black steelies, something a bit different...and with the 4" backspacing they will be right on the borderline with your stock flares.

Thanks. I like them better than the first option as well. Just not sure how they will fit. Going to look into it more.
Anyone else have opinions, suggestions, ideas?

you can go wider than 235. A number of people here run 12.50s (a little wider than 315s). What matters is the tire height, stock you can fit 31s but its a stretch IMO, 30s are pretty safe though. You could fit 265/75 R15 without trouble (with the correct BS though)

Haha just messing with you...i just take it as he wants it to be more stock looking with upgraded tires, but nothing real wide and oversized...thats why i said the 235/75's...they are 29"s, so that would give him less(if any) troubles rubbing, plus would give him a bit more flex room...unless he is deciding to lift it soon, then stuff away.lol I went through that whole "stuff the biggest tire you can" stage...and i learned the hard way...its not fun, and actually kind of embaressing when your tires rub every turn or bump you hit

You can put wider tires on if you have the correct BS...no way

I ended up ordering Black Rock 909D wheels....satin matte black...15x7, 5x4.5, 4.25 BS. Ordered some BFG Rugged Terrain T/A's...235/75R15's.
I think that should give me the exact look I want with all around good traction. Friendly for everyday and highway use with some decent traction for the light, occassional off-roading.

I've run 235x75x15s for the last 105K miles on stock 15x7" wheels. I've never rubbed even when turned fully. 30x9.50x15 may or may not rub. It would be awfully close if they don't.
