Tire/Wheel Size?
I just bought a 100% stock 2001 Cherokee Sport with the original 15" steel wheels and 235/75/15 tires (28.9" dia). I will be getting a 3" lift on it to get some height......what size wheel/tire works with this??

Hello. I just bought a rough 2000 cherokee classic. I also want to install a 3 inch lift. I think I have read here that around a 31 inch tall tire might be a limit unless you want to trim fenders or go 4 inch or higher. Also depends how you will drive it and where. I will not be doing much offroading. Maybe some logging roads type and deep snow here in WI. I am starting with a 245/70/16 which is 29.5 tall and 9.6 wide. I think I have read that around a 30 inch or so tire might still fit the spare tire in that back behind the seats.

I’m thinking 31-32 would be ok.....width is a concern as I don’t want to rub tires. I’m planning on doing a lot of off roading with this rig but it is also my daily and needs to be highway friendly.

I should also add I have increased truck tire sizes by around 2 inch over stock and have not experienced too bad a difference with stock gear ratios in the axles. For example, I increased a stock TJ wrangler to a 30 inch tall tire. The 4.10 gears are just OK now. Kind of slow not much lower end. It is a 4 cylinder though. Top speed on highway went up though to maybe 65 to 70 mph. Was hard to hit 65 with stock tires. I want to go 32 inch tires on that TJ wrangler but need to change gears to maybe at least a 4.56 ratio which is about one size bigger. I probably also need a 4 inch lift.

I always use an app called or searched for "tire size comparison" on my phone. It lets you enter your stock tire size and then you can try different combos to see what size new tires are and can try to stay closer to stock width.
