Are there any other alternatives vice a bunch of welding; meaning bolting on another crossmember or even adding a pre-made roll cage?
I know that a welder will pay for itself pretty quickly, but I ain't got no welding skills or $$$.

A pre made cage would require either removing the roof or a bolt together cage so either way you end up welding so..... And I don't suggest bolt together cages, may as well have nothing at all.
There are some relatively descent welders cheap, even Harbor Frieght has some. Learning to weld isn't too hard until you get to the thin stuff.
I wouldn't suggest any bolt on frame stiffeners either as it's all sheet metal you would be bolting too. A properly welded frame stiffener or cage is much stronger. And I would suggest tieing them together whereever possible.

T&T stiffeners, and custom plating. Still have to finish them up but here's a quick look. Also braced my leaf spring mounts front and rear.
When I'd flex it out, the spring hangers would separate from the frame, and the whole jeep flexed alot.
Some welding still needs to be done...

I plan on doing something close to what this guys doing, http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=966555 except i already bought ruff stuff stiffeners & will make that my starting point. Then come the aftermarket bumpers, then i'll tie it all in bumper to bumper, plating & re-enforcing everything as i go!! To top it off, skid plates similar to this...
Depending on how all of that goes, i may use the sliders & bumpers to start an exo cage & tie it into my roof rack. I'll be starting a build thread once i buy another XJ so im sure ill be back to this thread & others for tips & advice!!

I've been researching this for a long time now. I'm looking at the plates by Ruffstuff hard and was hoping someone had tried them...? Anyone...? Well if I get them installed soon enough I'll post some picts. Thanks all for your pictures and input on the TOTM.
