Track bar bracket help!
I just bought this jeep and the trac-bar bracket is trying to rotate and tear. It has obviously been fixed before but is in need of a better fix.
What route should I go on this? I can try to cut most of it off and have someone fabricate a new bracket or should I leave what is there and just cover it with new metal?
Not really sure what the best option is. I figured someone has had to of had a similar problem before.
Thanks

Double quoted for very very truth
Do not underestimate the importance of the track bar an how much load it sees - especially in highway driving where a failure can really be trouble. As stated, grind all the metal off to the axle and have someone start fresh and put a proper bracket on there. If the jeep is having any bump steer issues this will also be the time to correct the geometry. If it steers great on the road, then have it done in the same spot....only done well.

That's why you look under the car before you buy it. I'd be checking for more bodgy work before I took it on the road. Lucky that hack job held together for you as long as it did.

I believe JKS or someone makes a over knuckle steering track bar mount pre made you simply weld on. Granted if you bought it built you can buy the new mount and have someone else properly weld it. As mechanically inclined as I may be I would easily rather someone more knowledgable weld that for me.
As for the importance of the track bar, I got lucky. As I came off the highway I noticed slop in my steering and as I turned off the exit doing 25 I hit a bump, lost control (death wobble) and ended up on the sidewalk. If it broke a minute before that doing 65...who knows.

I did look under before buying. I knew this was an issue and it allowed me to get the jeep for a considerable amount less than what its worth.

I wasn't having a dig at you. Just pointing out what can be out there for the unsuspecting buyer. Good job on finding that potential disaster and doing something about it.
