Not if it's 91 or later.......

21 spline through 1990. 23 spline later.

Ok cool. I found a np242 with part time and full time. Would like to put that in but i dont know if linkage will work right. Cruiser its the same 89xj ive been building. But cash is tight. I have the 241d and 242(in 97xj) to use. Im guessing 242 would be better option? And 242 has like a 2:1 low range right?

231 linkage will work. You got a 21 spline 242?

Not sure if 21 or 23. Havent got to it to count it. I was just wondering about where it has full time/ part time and mine is 2h 4h 4l if that would pose a problem? And what is comparison in low range power of the 2. I believe 231 is like a 2.72:1 low correct?

You will just need to adjust linkage for the 242. It's no easy quick thing to adjust it, just adjust til you get it right. Otherwise look Into the boostwerks linkage. Make sure it's 21 spline as others have said.

I just did this swap on the same vehicle . The 242 is awesome in the snow in 4 wheel full time.Very stable on the highway. Honestly I wasn't impressed with it until I had to drive in snow. In deep snow you will still need 4 Wheel full. The only trouble I had was the transfer case shift rod kept bending. I had to install a cable shifter on the transfer case.

Cruiser you mean 94 when they changed the dodge truck body and the front drop on it.The old leaf spring trucks are passenger side drop while the 94 and newer are the driver side drop.

Well id like to stay strictly Jeep. So i got a 242j from a 94xj. Seems to be the same other than speed sensor and no vacuum port. But i have 96 axle so its useless. Do i just install as i would 231? I have the drivetrain from the 94 tcase came from

If your trans is from 89....its got 21 splines and you need an older 242 that has 21 spline input shaft/gear.

It does not matter at all what axles you have.
