Used lift kits
I came across a good deal on a 3.5 inch lift on Craigslist for the XJ. After looking into it a little bit more, I found out that it is made for the D35 rear axle, but I have the Chrysler 8.25. So I was wondering if it makes a big difference, or if there is anyway to modify this lift kit to fit my rear axle?

Whoa. Hold on. What lift kit? What do the parts consist of? Springs included?
Link?
I ask these questions for good reason. If it's a block lift, run away. If the springs are used, run away. If the parts are incomplete, run away...
You can get away with certain components, but we need better info to steer you in the right direction...

Used lift is like a used tooth brush not a good idea to me.Say you find a used lift cheap then you end up replacing all the bushings and shocks you end spending what the lift cost new.

Playing devil's advocate here. I bought a Rusty's 3" lift kit with full leaf packs and RE control arms and drop brackets for $280. I sold the upper control arms and drop brackets to make my total investment to $80, bought an RE1600 track bar for $80 and was set. So I had $160 in my 3" lift all together at first. The only thing that has gone bad on the kit are the leaf bushings, which were good when I bought it used. I have since changed out the front suspension coils but the leaf springs in the rear are still going strong. Look the used kit over, there are more bad used kits for sale on craigslist than good but sometimes you get lucky.

It's all still installed on the guy's jeep. So I would be able to check everything out before hand. It was on the jeep for a year or less before his engine blew. And it is a full suspension lift, no blocks.

Oh holy hell...it was a fire jeep?
Walk.
Some stuff might be okay. But I would pass on karma alone. LOL

I prefer buying used springs. They are already broken in.

Tough call.
Half of me thinks no for the simple fact that the guy is obviously clueless and I hate communicating with people like that.
On the other hand...I spy some aftermarket LCAs so the lift may be worth looking into (if they are included). Seems like a relatively small fire; would the heat have compromised the spring in any way? Something I'd consider.
I know the ad states that both axles are Dana 45 (remember that clueless statement I made) but that rear looks like an 8.25 to me, note the flat bottom portion.
You'd still need a track bar (skip the one that's on there) and shocks. Find out if the rear are full leaf packs or an add a leaf. If AAL, pass for sure. If full pack, try to find the brand and go from there.
