I learned something the hard way. '01 Cherokee Classic, supposed to have a 6" lift. Just bought it and wanted to change the oil. Filter is above the starter. Couldn't reach from below so I went into the engine bay looking. Found the filter but how to reach? I ended up crawling on the new extended bumper(for a winch) and then dropping the wratchet I used to turn the old filter off several times. Doing this while leaning on the valve cover of the 4.0L engine. I have a filter wrench that is adjustable and got that. Finally got the filter off and a new one installed. Anyone got suggestions on how they do this in a less painful manner? TIA.

 

I am 6ft tall, and in my case, I (just) lean over the fender and used chain-style filter wrench on my 3.5" lift

Therefore, I would stand on a footstool, ladder, or just blocks of wood, depending on your height

Example in case ur mathematically challenged like so many other ****wits I have met recently

If you are 5 ft 6" you will need 6" + 2.5" = 8.5"..In fact I would add a bit to make it comfortable so 1ft, or 1st rung of ladder (if you are 5 ft 6)

 

I stand on the passenger front tire. easy reach into enginebay.

 

I thought about the tire. I'm too clumsy
