Thanks fellas. Looks like it doesnt just pop off though? Ive taken off the collar and TRE and cleaned up the tie rod so now i just want to get the new boot on. Does it have to be forcefully removed?

Gonna bump an old thread, I've got a 98 Cherokee SE, want to make sure I'm gettin' the right stuff.

Yep, those are the right parts. You can slap some antisieze in the tie rod adjusting sleeve if you like, but only a very small amount.
Beware that, at least when I bought them, the TRE and tie rod were NOT painted.

I have one more question, I want to change out ALL of the tie rod ends I can. Bought my jeep with 172k and don't think the previous owner did a thing to it at any point in time.
Anyway, I've been staring at this pic and the only thing left to address is the drag link / tie rod ends for it. (i'll do track bar + replace pitman arm once I lift next year).
I believe the correct part for the drag link / right side is Moog DS1238 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER). And that'll need a new tie rod end for the pitman arm correct? any idea what part # that is?
and lastly, i'll be looking to install all these parts on the side of the street in NYC. Without appropriate jacks/jack stands. Is that ok for these bolt on upgrades? Will take in for an alignment right after.

TRE and adjusting sleeve is the same number for the drag link as the tie rod.
Yeah you can do it just lying on the street. It'll be a little tough without being able to turn the wheels a bit as required. Measuring tape alignment will get you to the shop (about 1/8" toe-in for most tires)

Also fyi, early style has 20mm drag link, later has 22mm. Don't know when they changed.

also are you missing an adjustment sleeve? or using an old one? draglink and tie rod both get one i reckon.

If I were trying to refresh the steering before winter hits, but before I move to 1-ton steering next spring/summer, would this fit the bill? I priced out Moog at ~$175 for a similar kit through Rock Auto.
Clamed 5 year warranty which means I can beat it all winter, upgrade to new steering, and warranty any failed parts...

The ends/adjusters are different between 20 and 22mm obviously.

Thanks Salad. Anyone know if the DS1310 Drag Link for the V8 ZJ will work with the XJ?
From what I can tell, it is a touch longer overall than the XJ
Since I am trying to make an improvement, I may as well order the right parts (meaning order the drag link that is for the XJ)

Yes. It's very slightly longer, either 1/4" or 1/2", I can't remember. It's all covered in this thread.
Would be decent for a lifted XJ so you have more thread engagement.
