Default Crazy for not just buying 4WD?

Thought i'd just drop in and say hi... HI!

So here goes... ever find something that just "fits?" New pair of comfy socks, favorite pair of boots... Well as i was shopping around for cheap 4WD beater and gathering info on my next possible purchase, a 2 door, 5spd. Cherokee. I ran across the most awesome ride, a '95 2WD, 2 door W/ automatic. WOW, I was truly blown back as this rig just seamed to just drive itself, I melted right into it. Call it LOVE?

Call it what you will; 2WD, prerunner, one legger, 1/2 4WD, trail challenged, whatever... This ride is Sweeeeeet!!! Probably the best new, used vehicle that i've ever owned. Tight, no rattles, squeaks, pops, never been hit, and totally "unmolested". To bad this is all gonna change.

Next purchase... 4WD Donor parts rig! I'm pretty much beside myself as to why i'm taking on this project. Sounds easy enough, the job won't be rushed and WILL be done right. My greatest fear? Will i keep it in a trophy case or will i take it out and do with it, what it was designed to do... Be a Jeep! I realize that some Cherokees came out of the factory as 4x4's and it would be sooooo much simpler to just buy one but... Whatever the rig, its' gonna get lockers, gears and serious hardware. Hey, thanks, during this venting session, i just answered my own question!

The build is ON! I got on to learn everything there is to know about the Cherokee. Did i come to the right place? Let the fun begin!!!

To be continued...

Oh. Hello jfx. I'm a noobie Jeep owner and have been reading a lot of forums for quite a while. What I gather is that a Cherokee is a little easier to convert from 2 to 4 than some Chevy trucks. (or 1960 Gillig school busses, for that matter). If the one you got is the one you gotta have, Go for it. Jeep forum had a couple of guys that did it.

Welcome... the XJ is probably one of the easiest vehicles to swap to 4wd. Everything is bolt on.

Red face 95 2WD Cherokee Sport

I just picked up a 95 Cherokee Sport as well, I traded my POS 93 Honda Del Sol with a jacked up tranny! Did I do a good thing? I already miss my 30MPG....what should I expect from the Jeep with the 4.0L Auto?
