It will probably take you longer to follow a guide than to just disconnect everything, it's quite simple. Haynes has a guide and if you just simply google or search the forum you are not inventing the wheel here.

Nomad, are you looking for instructions on REBUILDING, or just pulling the engine? If pulling, it's pretty much like ixnay said. Make sure you take out the two top bolts on the bell housing FIRST, or they will never come out. I just went through that. Had to grind the head off. Not fun.

If rebuilding, it's definitely NOT that simple.

I found a couple of rebuilding videos on YouTube. There are probably more.

You really need to find a good machine shop you can trust, because rebuilding an engine is NOT just taking it apart and slapping in new parts. If anyone tells you it's that simple, just smile, thank them for their input, and walk away. That person has NO clue what he is talking about.

Finding a good machine shop can be tough. Ask your local NAPA dealer - they often know. By the way, Haynes and Chilton often have completely wrong info in them, or are missing critical information. Don't waste your money on either one.

Don't try this if you don't have a CLEAN place to work, and pick up an engine stand. I just got one on CraigsList for $50 bucks. It's an oldie but a really good one. But the 4.0 isn't all that big, so the Harbor Freight unit will do you just fine.
