Hey All:

I've been a silent enthusiast of Jeeps for some time, and finally gained the courage do get one! After weeks of hourly searches on Craigslist, I found a solid donor. I just purchased, last night, a 1992 2dr XJ with a 5-speed manual! It's only got rear wheel drive and a 2.5L engine, but it was the cleanest 2dr body I could find with a manual transmission for $700. I'll update later with some pics.

This thing is gross! there is garbage everywhere, and it sorta smells like vomit...and I spilled some water on the carpet, which only made things worse. First thing, I think I am going to gut the interior and remove the carpet...maybe paint in some Herculiner in place. The water pump leaks bad, so I think this week I'll get a new one and a new thermostat and get that settled. The parking brake doesn't hold, so hopefully it's just an adjustment, but I've got to settle that quick! I noticed too, the door hinges are tearing off the body, so I'll need to visit a local welder to see if I can't get that straightened out.
















For $700, it drives well and shifts smooth. I am just so excited to have a Jeep!

A bit about me...I recently got myself in the used parts business, by way of salvaging used parts off wrecked Mazda Miata's. It started with the goal to build a Miata for free in my garage and I maybe took it too far. I recently decided to get a truck for light duty towing, but wanted something that would be practical and fun as a daily too...hence the XJ!

I'm really looking forward to building-out this project and experiencing offroading.

Also, picked up a re-manufactured water pump and a new thermostat and installed them tonight. I cracked the thermostat flange putting it back together...back to the store tomorrow for a new one and two new radiator hoses.
