New 98 XJ - Long time Jeeper, new to forum!
Hey all!
Just picked up my first XJ - 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 in Gunmetal Pearl. As many of you know I'm sure, it's tricky finding these in SoCal at a decent price these days, but I had a spreadsheet about a mile long with every XJ on this side of the Mississippi, and I was diligent. Ended up finding this one with 125k miles, really decent paint, some minor bumps and scratches, and a valve cover gasket leak, but overall extremely clean inside and out. Bone stock, but with an updated radio and rear speakers (they did include the stock radio!). Drives fantastic, shifts fantastic, cruises straight at 80mph (likes 72ish better). Leaking oil at a decent rate - so this is my first to-do this week. Plan is to start going through it and replacing all the easy-ish common stuff, and cross my fingers I don't find too many unexpected gremlins!
Coming from a 2010 JK that I had for 10 years and broke/replaced/upgraded lots on when I lived in TX and NM, and eventually sold last year. Currently enjoying a stock 2022 392XR that I ordered and received last year, which will be the garage mate of the XJ. First impression parking the XJ last night was how tiny it looks next to the JL. The XJ wins the classiness award by a mile though!
Will be doing a lot of lurking and searching, but wanted to say I'm appreciative of the community you all have built here, and can't wait to learn more. Looking forward to getting to know y'all!
