2016 Cherokee Limited 3.2l, towing limit with CURT hitch
Hello,
I am new in here and hope, that I am in the correct forum. I just bought and mounted a CURT trailer hitch #C13172. The hitch has a mximum towing limit of 5000 lbs. Checking towing limits online at https://www.jeep.com/en/jeep-capabil...#Cherokee4Tab* shows for my car 2 towing limits: regular 2000 lbs, with Trailer Tow Package 4500 lbs. Does the CURT hitch compares to the Jeep package? So does the 4500 lbs apply or the 2000 lbs?
Thanks for answer.

more than than the hitch accounts for the towing package....so if all you have it the hitch, it still means 2000 lbs.
Trailer tow package means usually :
Hitch
Wiring
Full Sized Spare Tire
Bigger Alternator
Better gearing in the axle
HD Engine Cooling
Transmission cooler
And this should really be in the KL section to get the most accurate help from other owners.

@TRCM: Thanks, that was the right hint, it made me check the Jeep Cherokee Build&Price section to see what is included in the Trailer Tow Package: Indeed, it contains most of the mentioned parts, with the consequence that its really a maximum of 2000 lbs - which is ridiculous for that car!
@andrewmp6: The sticker only contains GVWR, GAWR (front and rear), thats it
I am a bit frustrated. I am from Germany (moved to the US 1 year ago) and we dont have these strict towing limits, thus I never thought about it. The same car in Germany would be allowed to tow at least 4500 lbs, with no extra package. And the car would be able to tow it, absolutely safe. My father had a 4.0l Cherokee in the late 1980's and towed our 7700 lbs boat. All he needed to do is upgrade the brakes!
Well, seems thats the game... and seems I bought the wrong car, its the hard way to learn it .
One last question: the 2000 lbs, its the total weight of the towed trailer (trailer weight + load), right? If so, I can't even tow a decent camper, all I can tow is a micro utility trailer - sigh.
