3RD Time to fix transmission 2016 2.4 4x4
i purchased my vehicle on august 12th 2019. 2016 jeep Cherokee kl 31,000 miles 4 cyl 4x4 certified pre owned. on august 16th check engine service transmission and service 4x4 come on. by the morning august 17th light turn off go to dealer it had a saved code and although they see it they send me away nothing they can do. August 19th Monday morning on the way to work all the light come on again. This time i leave car on my wife drives to my job and switched out vehicles and took it strait to dealer. I only realize at this time when i finally get car fax the they had check engine light previous owned updated/reprogrammed transmission before certifying it. This is a red flag number 1 and first time they tried to fix issue.2nd time now attempting to fix transmission problem they replaced valve body and send me on my way by august 30th. i was hesitant. the service manager even joked if this doesn't fix it well put in a whole new transmission hahaha like it was a good thing. At this time i have had a defective vehicle from the 16th to the 30th 14 days owned it 17 days. i have vehicle it shakes on highway over 70 mph wobble in low gears hesitates horribly when trying to pull out of pass merge on highway. take it in look it all over September 24th they ask them about font end transmission anything that could fix wobble and shake they even re balance my tires. doesn't fix issue they say everything is normal. at this point my wife is really hesitant about car says something is wrong. a few times it feels to almost stall out in reverse. i really like car say it probably fine being hopeful and having warranty. i usually only take this car on highway from max 10 miles to work occasionally. On October 19th after being on the highway about 50 miles. which is furthest we have ever gone may and hour from our house the service transmission and check engine light come on again. We get to closest dealer and get rental. They take car in it is 3 pm Saturday so they can look till Monday. On Tuesday October 22nd i was told transmission replacement. That The "new transmission" would be in either October 25 Friday or October 28th. I was told a one day job so i should be safe to say getting it back by Wednesday October 30th. Ok no problem i just want it fixed hoping it fixes shakes and wobbles hesitation ect. so i'm hopeful again. I have a 2 year and just got this vehicle hoping to have a safe reliable vehicle for my little one . On October 25th i am contacted by dealer and am told that the transmission is on back order and the eta is now January 24th 2020. Over 3 months from now the date i took in. I am also in the maximum care warranty until November 12th 2019 and wanted car look over to make sure no other issues. my problem is that for over a month of the 3 month i was under max care warranty for CPO it had been inoperable. i have expressed that 3 months is unreasonable asked for extension on my maximum care warranty. i contact jeep "cares" Monday October 21st tell them my issue. The reopen my case.first when valve body was done. i expressed with my first case manager that i didn't think that this issue was resolved. They closed my case but less than 2 months later here i am again. On 10/24 they close my case because they contacted dealer and getting my transmission replaced. even though they haven't gotten part and not fixed.I email them back same day expressing that this is second time with this issue and they reopen and claim to closed in error. This is before they even knew it would take three months to fix car. supposedly dealer is talking with southeast regional manager to try to divert transmission faster as well as my case manager that closed my case already in "error" to get it done faster. i was only till i asked for extension on warranty and and expressing looking into my rights did they seem to care very much. very little faith in FCA or this car right now. I do really like the car but i never had a Cherokee that was operating properly so would probably love it if i did. I want to spread my story please look into car fax and research car before you buy. You are a customer and should be taken care of properly if you are put into a similar situation.

I would start demanding a refund at this point. If it was a new car, you'd be able to claim it under the lemon law. Worst case you could pursue this in small claims court, particularly since the carfax suggests that the problem was known to exist prior to your purchasing the vehicle. Even the threat of small claims court will likely motivate the dealer.

Small claims courts have award limit caps depending on the jurisdiction. In Maine it’s around $6000, not enough to refund the OP’s payment. Other states may go up to $10,000, still too low. It’s called “small” for a reason. The OP will likely have to make his “demand” through a civil suit with an attorney.
The OP has been all over the web posting about this in Jeep forums. I feel his pain, and his warning is a good reminder for anyone buying used cars. I wish him luck.
